Phoenix jobs fair

The Georgia Department of Labor's Augusta Career Center and the University of Phoenix are sponsoring a career expo for area job seekers from 9 a.m. to noon today at the University of Phoenix's Augusta campus, 3150 Perimeter Parkway.

There will be about 45 employers at the jobs fair. Applicants should bring résumés and be prepared to fill out company applications and interview for available job openings.

A free screening of Up , rated PG, will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Augusta Public Library, 902 Greene St.

Smoked turkeys

The Augusta Training Shop is having a smoked turkey sale for Thanksgiving.

The turkeys average 12 pounds and cost $40. Proceeds benefit the Augusta Training Shop.

Turkeys should be ordered in advance and may be picked up from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at 1704 Jenkins St.

Artists sought

The Art Factory, in partnership with the Augusta Utilities Department, is covering the walls of the Highland Avenue Water Department with art.

The second phase of the project will focus on the Wrightsboro Road wall and include a juried exhibit of large-scale art focused on a theme of water. Six area artists will be chosen for the project, which is slated to begin in March. Artists may submit one design, in true colors of the finished project, on template paper provided by The Art Factory.

Interested artists are asked to contact The Art Factory at (706) 731-0008 or info@artfactoryinc.org and pick up a template by Dec. 1. The Art Factory office is on the ground floor of the Sacred Heart Cultural Center, 1301 Greene St.

Christmas parade

The 2009 Christmas Fantasy Parade will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, on Broad Street.

Nominees sought

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is seeking nominations for the 2010 Women of Distinction awards.

Candidates are selected based on their accomplishments, leadership, impact on the community and effectiveness as role models for girls and women.

The deadline for nominations is Friday, Dec. 11.

Award recipients will be recognized at a luncheon May 13.
