Colts to field team in 2010

The ownership of the Augusta Colts will hold a news conference this afternoon to announce that the indoor football team will compete in the 2010 season.

"We're going to make some introductions and announce that we're going forward," Colts owner John Sisson said. "We also have a few other announcements we're going to make."

The team will make the announcements at 4 p.m. at Hawthorn Suites on Belair Road.

Sisson is expected to reveal the team's move from the American Indoor Football Association to the Southern Indoor Football League, a league that includes teams from Columbus, Ga.; Albany, Ga.; and Greenville, S.C.

The indoor football team, the third in Augusta since 2000, voluntarily shut down for the 2009 season after a rocky inaugural campaign in 2008.

Bubba Diggs, the coach of the Colts during their only season, split ways with the team in a contract dispute after the 2008 season and later settled with the team out of court.

Sisson said new head coach Cedric Roach will be on-hand for today's news conference along with a representative from the SIFL.

Just My Opinion

Good. Looking forward to it.

I wish them good luck. Unless the Augusta area supports the Colts, the team will not survive and they will be history just like what happen to the Lynx. The Colts need your support this time around.
