Richmond County authorities are investigating two armed robberies that occurred about the same time Saturday night.
In the first, a man with a gun robbed Taco Bell at 3222 Wrightsboro Road about 9:20 p.m., according to a Richmond County sheriff's report. The robber walked in while talking on a cell phone, and he continued to hold the phone to his head as he ordered his food. When an employee opened a cash register to give the man change, the man showed the employee a black handgun and demanded money.
The robber took about $142 and fled on foot. A blue jacket and white hat with a black crown, similar to those the robber was wearing, were found at the railroad tracks on Sibley Road near Gordon Highway.
The robber was described as black, in his late 40s or early 50s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing about 120 pounds and with scruffy facial hair.
A second armed robbery occurred about 9:40 p.m. at S T Food Store at 3706 Mike Padgett Highway. The report says a man jumped over the counter, struck an employee in the back of the head with a black pistol four times and took money from the cash register. The robber fled south on Mike Padgett Highway in a small silver vehicle.
The robber was described as black, 20 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, black shoes and a hooded sweat shirt. The man might also have had a blue shirt pulled over his face.

We need a few more Captain D's incidents, maybe that will slow some of these p.o.s's down.
These pieces of trash deserve jail the rest of their life and frankly that is too good for them. Nice to know the commission after waisting our tax money with twice a week trash service, studies for stadiums and downtown trolley systems, travel to various places including the recent trip with 4 commissioners are now reviewing how to cut 1 million dollars from the Sheriff's Office and our safety. We need more deputies on our streets, not less and we need to make the salaries at least comparable to other nearby agencies if we ever hope to keep our good officers working here.
Yep, another couple of robberies, and a couple of people still loose on the streets to do more, but I agree with Asif-tTake trips and spend money after money on studies. JUst like the school system with all there cuts, who cares about employees? You know most of these robberies are where our young people work and that is very sad, They have to work evenings and weekends but yet they are in danger!!!Stop the nonsense Commissioners!!Have all your meetings in a conference room in the Marble Palace and don't even think about catering lunch or snacks- that is just more of our tax dollars. I know how it goes because I have worked in the Marble Palace and other places as well. Get a Grip Augusta, WE NEED OUR SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND LOTS MORE DEPUTIES TO SAVE OUR LIVES!!@!!!! It's Christmas Time and it's bad now what do you think it will be on Black Friday and Until Christmas. We would llike to have a great Great Christmas and New Year, that is the only break some working people get. Give us Deputies!
It is time for all to use the right afforded under the second amendment of the constitution. Like it or not we have pc'ed ourselves back into a "wild west" type of atmoshpere. The time has come for law abiding citizens learn how to make a citizens arrest and use it.
WE lived in the Lumpkin rd. Wheeless rd. area in the 60s..70s ..It was so different then, not perfect but so much better than now..Richmond cty leaders take notice this is the main reason people move to other areas..TOO MUCH CRIME.
If we could just get these guys a bachelors degree......
I see a doctorate decree in their future ..... DOA
I agree we need more and better paid police officers. But the police do not prevent crime, they respond to it, after the fact. They can't be everywhere. But, my .45 auto goes everywhere I do.
Gimme Gimme Gimmee! I dont wish to work so I'll steal from others. This line of thinking sounds familiar....
dime for a dollar most of these guys have been incararated before.. and just what did they get out of their incarcaration? Three hots and a cot for a couple of months, plus some really good instruction on how to do it right the next time.. To think that more time in prison is some kind of answer is beyond the pale.. we must do a better job of rehabilitating young first offenders with all the effort we can muster.. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure..... but in the mean time, I keep my shotgun at the ready...
faithson I agree with you---chop off their hand they steal with.
a little to draconian for me fish... must be a more civilized solution... being college educated in the social sciences, I know there are avenues of treatment we could follow, but i'm afraid the 'freedom crowd at all costs' would be offended... and there goes the 'rub'........
