ORANGEBURG, S.C. --- Malcolm Long threw four touchdown passes as South Carolina State defeated Morgan State 37-13 to clinch the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title on Saturday.
Long was 21 of 32 for 319 yards. Oliver Young had 166 yards and two touchdowns on six catches for the Bulldogs (9-1, 7-0 MEAC). William Ford finished with 136 all-purpose yards and one receiving touchdown.
Morgan State (5-5, 3-4) was led by Carlton Jackson, who was 12 for 19 for 100 yards and two interceptions. The Bears have lost four in a row.
A 7-yard touchdown run from Jackson cut the Bulldogs' lead to 14-7 with 1:20 left in the first quarter.
But the Bears were outscored 20-0 in the second and third quarters combined, putting the game out of reach.
COASTAL CAROLINA 41, PRESBYTERIAN 37
In Conway, S.C., Zach MacDowall threw three touchdown passes to lead Coastal Carolina.
MacDowall went 11 for 23 for 193 yards passing with one interception for the Chanticleers (5-5, 3-2 Big South). MacDowall connected with Paul Nicholas on a pair of 23-yard touchdown passes, and Brandon Whitley on a 26-yard touchdown. Nicholas had four catches for 82 yards.
MacDowall's second touchdown pass to Nicholas with 10:41 to play in the third quarter gave the Chanticleers their largest lead at 41-24.
The Blue Hose (0-10, 0-5) scored the last two touchdowns on a 3-yard pass from Brandon Miley to Robert Bumgarner and a 29-yard pass from Miley to Patrick McKoy.
Miley went 20 for 32 with an interception for 251 yards. Lance Byrd rushed for 148 yards.
The Blue Hose have lost 13 consecutive games.
CHARLESTON SOUTHERN 30, STONY BROOK 27 (OT)
In Charleston, S.C., John Paglia kicked a 43-yard field goal in overtime to lift Charleston Southern.
Stony Brook (5-5, 4-1 Big South Conference) suffered its first conference loss, but the Seawolves can still gain a share of the conference championship with a victory over Liberty next week.
Paglia also kicked field goals of 46 and 51 yards to help Charleston Southern (4-6, 2-3) overcome Stony Brook's 340 yards rushing.
The Buccaneers led 27-24 until Stony Brook's Wesley Skiffington kicked an 18-yard field goal with 12:46 left in the game.
Deon Lee scored on an 89-yard kickoff return for Charleston Southern.
A.J. Toscano was 19 for 32 for 214 yards and a 29-yard touchdown pass to Josh Atkinson for the Buccaneers.
Edwin Gowins rushed for 177 yards and two touchdowns for Stony Brook.
LIBERTY 51, GARDNER-WEBB 28
In Boiling Springs, N.C., Tommy Beecher threw three touchdown passes and Mike Brown rushed for two scores to help Liberty pull away.
Liberty (8-2, 5-0 Big South Conference) took sole possession of first place in the league following Stony Brook's 30-27 overtime loss to Charleston Southern.
NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL 18, WINSTON-SALEM STATE 10
In Winston-Salem, N.C., Michael Johnson threw a touchdown pass as North Carolina Central rallied to beat Winston-Salem State.
Johnson threw a 4-yard touchdown pass to Sae Abdul-Azeez in the third quarter to put the Eagles ahead 15-10 with 55 seconds left in the third quarter. Johnson went 10 for 21 for 122 yards and an interception. The Eagles (3-7) added a 26-yard field goal by Frankie Cardell.
