Foe got to scout Musketeers' game

  • Follow High school

Glynn Academy's unusual schedule allowed its coaches to scout the game between Evans and Richmond Academy last week.

Glynn Academy finished its season with a 5-5 record on Oct. 30, then awaited its playoff fate. Based on its final record, its coaches knew their team would play at the winner of last week's game, which turned out to be Richmond Academy.

"I saw them taking more notes on Evans than us," Richmond Academy coach Chris Hughes said. "I think they were surprised. ... (The two-week layoff) could be helpful or hurtful."

The schedule did have one obvious benefit for Richmond Academy: its coaches didn't have to spend half of Saturday driving to exchange film with Glynn Academy. The coaches met Saturday morning at the Cracker Barrel on Belair Road, after the Glynn Academy coaches stayed the night in a hotel.

REBELS FALL FAST: Hephzibah lost an incredible amount of ground in the region standings with only one loss.

The Rebels were tied for first place with Evans and Lakeside two weeks ago, but tumbled all the way down to the fourth seed with a loss to Richmond Academy. A win over the Musketeers, as it turned out, would have given Hephzibah the region's top playoff seed.

It would have finished at 8-1, tied with Lakeside but with a head-to-head tiebreaker in hand.

The Rebels, making consecutive playoff appearances for the first time, travel to Region 2-AAAA champion Brunswick in the first round.

PANTHERS CONSISTENT: Lakeside's defense started and finished the season with three consecutive shutouts, setting a school record with six total blankings.

In between, the Panthers allowed 39 points to four teams. They have given up only four touchdowns in regulation this season.

THIS AND THAT: First- and second-round playoff tickets are $8 per game, according to Georgia High School Association policy. Most area schools charge $6 for tickets during the regular season. ... Region 3-AAAA first-round winners are almost assured of meeting Region 1-AAAA (Macon-to-Thomas County area) teams in the second round. ... Harlem, for the all the chatter about its low participation numbers, finished with the same record as last season: 4-6.

Hephzibah has a good team and maybe they can get back on track. As far as their loss to ARC dropping them from the top spot to the 4th, that's a lot of IF's. What if Evans had beaten ARC? Then it would have been a three way tie. What if, What if. As it turns out, Lakeside only has one loss while the other playoff bound teams have two. Let's say it once more...Lakeside Region CHAMPIONS.

Well the articles leading up to this one is a "IF" every week we were picked to loss so I'm straight with Lakeside being the Champs good job Coach Grooms but we always get the short end of the stick we beat 3 good teams and oh well it was a fluke type thing. Evans, Hephzibah, and Glenn Hills were tough wins and we got about ----------------------- this much press lol!!! But when Lakeside and Evans play Josey and Butler its like OMG they beat them they are SUPPOSE to beat them but it's always next year and I know we will pick at the bottom next year to so were gonna go out here and pull off another shocker if we can and see what you guys comment about that.

They were not here to scout us either...... I saw three coaches walk out and come back in when we scored the touchdown to go ahead. They sat on Evans sideline because they want to hear what they could from the close sidelines and pressbox old coaching tricks. Plus they use to beat our heads in 2-3 years ago they have 0 respect for use so I guess we have to go out and earn some more respect tonight... Only game in the city come check us out.
