Gardener helped make Augusta greener

  • Follow Letters

I was shocked and saddened to hear that my dear friend Bill Adams was tragically killed in a traffic accident while doing what he loved to do most: working in his front yard.

Bill was a wonderful, kind man who was committed to the idea of making Augusta a true garden city. He was a member of the First Saturday Crew, and always made sure the group had plenty of plants to install at the various locations in which our group worked. The azaleas, hydrangeas and the rescued native plant life at Aqueduct Park all bear Bill's fingerprints.

Every time Bill met a child, he would fish around in his back pocket and hand the child a packet of seeds. "Uncle" Bill truly was Augusta's version of Mr. Green Jeans.

To his family, all of us with the First Saturday Crew and Greater Augusta Progress would like to say "thank you" for sharing Bill with our community. He was a true gem, and we will never forget him.

Never meet Mr. Bill Adams but he sounds like a citizen Augusta can be prod of. I'm sure the First Saturday Crew will not let his grave be neglected.
