Augusta State falls to Anderson on road
In Anderson, S.C., Augusta State fell to nonconference opponent Anderson 3-1 (25-21, 25-17, 20-25, 26-24) in its regular-season finale Saturday night.
The Jaguars (22-11) next play in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, which will be held Friday and Saturday in Aiken.
- In Montevallo, Ala., USC Aiken snapped a season-high eight-match losing streak with a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-15, 25-11) of nonconference foe Miles on Friday night.
The Pacers (14-17) began the day with a 3-2 loss (19-25, 20-25, 25-13, 27-25, 15-13) to Peach Belt Conference rival Montevallo.

Pacers knocked off in exhibition game
In Charleston, S.C., Tony White Jr. 's bank shot from just outside of the free-throw line with two seconds left in overtime gave the College of Charleston a 94-92 exhibition victory over USC Aiken on Saturday night.
Byron Faison scored a game-high 35 points for the Pacers. He went 13 for 25 from the field, including 7 for 14 from behind the arc. Re'mon Nelson added 23 points, nine rebounds and five assists and three steals.
USC Aiken's regular season begins Nov. 18 against Life at the school's convocation center.
In the women's game, USC Aiken fell 66-44 despite getting 19 points and 10 rebounds from Hannah DeGraffinreed .
Nakia Pinkney was the only other Pacer in double figures, finishing with 13 points.

Peach Belt finals to be played in Evans
Eighth-seeded Montevallo can win the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tournament with a third consecutive upset in today's final at Blanchard Woods Park in Evans.
Montevallo already knocked off top-seeded Columbus State in the first round and No. 4 Georgia College & State in the semifinals. It gets second-seeded Armstrong Atlantic State in the final, which begins at 1 p.m.
Armstrong Atlantic State beat No. 3 Lander in the semifinals.
In the men's final, slated to begin at 3 p.m., second-seeded Lander will take on top-seeded Flagler.

Ramirez plans to return to Dodgers
Manny Ramirez is coming back to the Dodgers next season.
The team said that the slugger exercised his $20 million contract option for 2010. His agent Scott Boras informed Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti of the decision.
- Mets reliever J.J. Putz and Twins pitcher Carl Pavano filed for free agency Saturday.
Putz became a free agent one day after New York declined his $9.1 million option and chose to pay a $1 million buyout.
- Minnesota exercised a $10.5 million option for 2011 on Michael Cuddyer , who hit a career-high 32 homers last season.
- The Phillies said three players will have operations in the next week.
Closer Brad Lidge will have surgery Wednesday to remove a loose body from his right elbow.
Today, outfielder Raul Ibanez will have a sports hernia repaired and left-hander Scott Eyre will have loose bodies removed from his left elbow.

Canada tops U.S. in Four Nations final
In Tikkurila, Finland, Canada rallied from a goal down to beat the United States 5-1 in the Four Nations Cup final.
The Canadians have won nine of 12 Four Nation finals.
Sweden took third after a 2-1 shootout victory against Finland.
Speedskating
Dane captures 24th World Cup victory
World champion Sven Kramer, of the Netherlands, cruised to victory in the 5,000 meters at the season-opening speedskating World Cup meet, covering the distance in 6 minutes, 14.69 seconds for his 24th career World Cup win.
Havard Bokko of Norway was second in 6:17.17, and Bob de Jong of the Netherlands was third.
Wang Beixing of China won the women's 500 in 37.85 seconds. Christine Nesbitt of Canada won the 1,000 in 1:15.41.
