NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. - Mr. James E. Haywood, 79, entered into rest Thursday, November 5, 2009 at National Health Care. His funeral service will be held today, Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Immanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Coyle officiating. Burial will follow in Pineview Memorial Park. Mr. Haywood was a native of Asheboro, NC and lived in North Augusta since 1955. He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering and retired from SRS after 35 years as a superintendent of Waste Management. Mr. Haywood was a former member of the North Augusta Rotary Club, North Augusta Chamber of Commerce, the Chairman of Private Industry Council for Aiken County, a superintendent in the safety department, security and personnel, and a member of Augusta Genealogical Society. Mr. Haywood is survived by his sons, Robert Haywood and his wife Kym of Severna Park, MD, Jimmie Haywood and his wife Sherri of North Augusta, SC, and Charles Haywood and his wife Judy of Evans, GA; his daughters, Betty Lynn Godwin and her husband Sonny, Kathy Lynn and her husband Pat, and Julianne Jhant and her husband Philip, all of North Augusta, SC; one brother Bryce Haywood of Columbia, SC; and his nine grandchildren: Travis Smith, Kate Lynn, Tyler Haywood, Allie Jhant, Paige Haywood, Isabella Haywood, Patrick Lynn, Geddings Jhant, and Hawthrone Haywood. He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances C. Haywood and his parents Edward and Kate Whatley Haywood. The family will receive friends at the church from noon until time of the service and will be at the home of Betty Lynn Godwin, 268 Shoreline Dr. North Augusta. Pallbearers will be Jim Beatty, Ernest Hooks, David James, Dewey Gregory, Chip Buchanan and Kelly Buchanan. Honorary pallbearers will be Frank Aiken and Lindy Mann.
