$1 million in jewelry stolen during burglary

EAST POINT, GA. --- East Point police are looking for whoever broke into a Kay Jewelers store and made off with at least $1 million worth of jewelry.

East Point Police spokesman Cliff Chandler said someone forcibly entered the jewelry store after it was closed. Officials are unsure whether more than one person was involved.

'Kidnap' e-mail sender is found safe, jailed

ATLANTA --- Police say a woman who had been sought as a possible kidnap victim has been located in the Riverdale area and arrested.

Fulton County police spokesman Sgt. Scott McBride says a search was begun for 24-year-old Deniecia E. Lester after her husband reported she had text-messaged him that she had been kidnapped.

Sgt. McBride says a team of two Fulton police and six U.S. marshals searched for her Thursday in the Clayton County area.

Police dog is stolen from kennel and killed

BARNESVILLE, GA. --- A Griffin police dog has been found shot to death, and the officer he worked with is offering a $500 reward in the case.

The Herald-Gazette newspaper in Barnesville reports that Griffin Officer Chad Moxon, who lives in Lamar County, says the dog, called Jimi, was taken from the kennel at his home on Monday along with his other dog while he was at the Griffin firing range.

Officer Moxon says the dog's body was found at the side of the road near Yatesville. He says his other dog was found alive but had been badly beaten.
