Our nation needs lots of reforms -- now

  • Follow Letters

It's past time for the government to give back the freedoms given by our Constitution and get out of everyday details of our lives.

We need to remove lawyers from the lawmaking process along with career politicians, as both become self-serving entities no matter how noble they start their public service careers -- leaving "we the people" to suffer.

Tort reform; revamping of the Food and Drug Administration, making it truly responsible for the drugs it allows on the market from a corrupt pharmaceuticals industry; and more oversight of the insurance industry would be a great start to health-care reform. The only problem with this approach is the corruption in government that brought the United States to the acute problems we presently face.

Laws and oversight by the public that severely punish those that breach public faith would have to be put in place and followed.

So-called "white-collar crime" is more devastating than the present punishments make it appear. A slap on the hand doesn't send much of a message to those who would steal all that we have -- our present state and federal government .

It all started with the dumbing down of America. The government trained voters choose exactly who they're supposed to choose. The government system is working.

I don't have a problem with tort reform, but the two states which have tried it have realized very little to no savings from it.

Tort reform only hurts the little guy. The Constitution gives us the right to redress. Statistically, damages paid out don't amount to anything. It was the Republicans who took away a lot of regulation that the letter writer is now whining about, but I would agree that both parties are guilty of being in the pockets of the drug and insurance industries.

@southernguy08- Guess Justus is being his usual self everyday and all day. His reactive responses are predictable and really do a "bang up" job in solving "his people's" problems since every post is about race no matter what the topic is. Maybe he and those like minded will be nominated for the next Nobel Prize for their astute knowledge of what ails America since after all they are doing so much on positive change for their own community.

The first thing we need to do is keep attorneys from advertising their services in the first place. This something for nothing drivel that they put on billboards and tv adds is pure junk. The same thing can be said for the Pharmacutical companies. If you need a lawyer or a drug you should have enough sense to get it on your own... oh yea, that free speach thing.. only in America.
