Cancer survivors will show off the latest in fashions during the Chemo With Style Fashion Show on Nov. 12.
It is a fundraiser for a program, Chemo With Style, that will be offered in the Augusta area next year for those undergoing chemotherapy or radiation, said Alison Chism, a volunteer coordinator for the program.
"Chemo With Style will offer them styling suggestions and give them an opportunity to meet with others who are having similar experiences," she said.
The free classes will begin in 2010 and be held every other month. Participants will get information on how to cope with hair loss, how to use accessories and other style tips.
"Our goal is that all participants will glance in the mirror, see their faces and have reassurance that they are truly beautiful," Ms. Chism said. "It's a self-esteem booster.
''Chemo and radiation can be emotionally hard for people to go through, so it's important for them to feel good about their looks, especially during that time."
The show will also feature a silent auction and heavy hors d'oeuvres.
Chemo With Style was founded in Columbia in 2005 as a nonprofit program of Hospice Care of Tri-County. It has spread to other areas, including Sumter and Seneca, S.C.
Its sister organization, Hospice Care of America, will organize local classes, said Ms. Chism, who is also a community education coordinator for the organization.
