Lunch Money: Roadrunner Cafe
By Tharon Giddens| Features Editor

We have a new option in our southside dining rotation: Roadrunner Cafe, at 2508 Peach Orchard Road.

Roadrunner aces the Lunch Money criteria: It's fast, it's good and it's cheap. Lunch Buddy Donna and longtime Lunch Companion Susan met there for a recent weekday meal. We were out of there within 45 minutes for less than $25, including tip.

We each had a lunch special ($6.59) that included an entree, fries and a drink. My hamburger was grilled to perfection. Donna's wings were spicy, and Susan's shrimp were fresh and tasty. Nothing fancy, just good and filling.

The server was friendly and efficient. She kept the drinks refilled and offered us full glasses of tea to take back to work.

This is a basic bar/restaurant. It's cool, dark and acceptably clean (though the windows and glass doors need some attention). There are televisions tucked away in various corners, and there's music in the background that's set at a just-right volume so it doesn't interfere with your conversation.

Roadrunner is appropriately named: It's in front of Coyotes nightclub. Like its namesake cartoon character, it's a fast choice for lunch.

Thank you to all the Lunch Money readers who suggested some southside dining options. We'll be checking out some other destinations soon.
