Player of the Week: McKenzie Talbert

HOW SHE FARED: Talbert shot 5-under-par 139 over the two-day South Carolina Class AAA Girls State Golf Championship to win the individual title at Quail Creek Golf Club in Conway, S.C. She finished four shots ahead of Seneca's Austin Ernst, a senior and a Louisiana State signee. Her performance helped Strom Thurmond finish third overall. She's also the No. 2 player on the Rebels' boys squad.

TALBERT ON TALBERT: "I have a lot of expectations and goals for myself, and winning the state championship was definitely a goal of mine. I just went out there believing in myself and wound up pulling it off ... It's good to have (a state title) under my belt and I hope to do it the next three years I play."

WHAT THEY'RE SAYING: "She's special. You don't run across players like her. Athletically, she knows where she needs to be and she puts herself there. She works really hard at it." -- Strom Thurmond girls golf coach Nick Lorimer
