VIDEO: Debussy's The Girl with the Flaxen Hair

AGE: 47

HOMETOWN: Augusta

OCCUPATION: Music director, Unitarian Universalist Church of Augusta, since 1988

PLAYS: Piano

PLAYS WITH: quietSTORM; solo artist

FAVORITE PERFORMANCE: Morris Museum of Art, 2008. "I played a program called I Hear a Rhapsody. It was just a selection of rhapsodies by different composers, and I included Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody in an arrangement that I had done. ... It was well-themed and seemed to flow from one thing to the next very well."

FAVORITE CONCERT ATTENDED: Rudolph Serkin playing solo piano, Eastman School of Music, Rochester, N.Y., 1983. "He played three Beethoven sonatas and one immense piece by Max Reger, ... (Mr. Serkin) was magnificent, just like watching someone slay a dragon. He's an old, old man by that time; it was a real triumph, I think, for him to be able to bring something off still to that extent."

FAVORITE MOVIES: Chinatown, Blade Runner, Casablanca

MUSICAL ROOTS: "I started (piano) lessons when I was 8, and I took for a few years. After that I played by ear, which was a great experience for me. It was about 1972, '74, and there were a lot of things on the radio that actually sounded decent when you played it on the piano, so the transition worked well for me, and I developed my ear through doing that."

WORST SHOW: "I think the worst thing that ever happened to me was taking a last-minute job on a New Year's Eve party for someone I thought was a friend of mine. And we went in as a jazz trio when we had been described as an eight-piece beach-music band, and lawsuits were threatened, and it was a truly horrible experience."

TV FAVORITES: GHOST HUNTERS, Ghost Lab, Mystery Quest, House
