What now -- curb your outrage?

Christians should be in the streets over this.

You can bet your Muslim friends would be.

On HBO's sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm Sunday, comedian Larry David's character accidentally urinates on a painting of Jesus in someone's home -- and two women subsequently believe the painting is crying and they fall to the bathroom floor in prayer.

Hilarious, no?

No.

As world-class insults go, this one is a two-fer: Not only is it beyond outrageous that HBO would think it's funny to urinate on an image of Jesus -- humanity's revered Lord and Savior in the Christian world -- but to then cynically mock an entire religious faith's belief in miracles is an insult overlaying an insult.

Question: Would these "courageous" envelope-pushing comedy writers even dream of urinating on an image of Muhammad and mocking the Muslim faith?

We seriously doubt that, considering the riots and death threats caused by Muhammad cartoons in a Danish newspaper -- and the deadly riots that followed an errant 2005 Newsweek report that a Quran had been put in a toilet by U.S. guards.

Christians in America are much more tolerant -- and, apparently as a result, much more target-rich for ridicule and derision. How horribly sad, this state of affairs.

Religious tolerance is preached across the globe these days -- and, in fact, led by the Obama administration, the United Nations Human Rights Council recently decried religious intolerance and insults.

Funny how Christians always seem to be the exception.

Or maybe not so funny.

Larry David needs to remarry Sienfeld and get some silly "reunion series" going. NBC's gotta get some decent shows soon... Reality TV bites.

Riverman1

That show was disrespectful period. A portrait of Jesus beside the toliet was bad enough. Who does that? To have him urinate on it was unreal. Koran, Torah? No way.

WhippingPost

Every sponsor of this show should be noted and boycotted for life. E-mails to HBO will be urinated on, but will garner some attention. This IS the level of entertainment HBO is expected to provide.

Fish Out of Water

The editorial staff is quick to point out that there would be an outrage if this were done to the Quran, but I seriously doubt there would be an AC editorial coming to the defense of Muslims if that were the case. I'm neither defending nor rebuking the show, but don't try to tell me you would be outraged if it were Mohamed instead of Jesus. People on this editorial staff and in these comment sections figuratively urinate on the Muslim faith (and any other non-christian religion) on a weekly basis.

concernednative

I wouldn't do it but it is America so they should be free to do it. People should speak with the remotes and stop watching the show and/or cancel their HBO subscriptions.

benbadis

I don't untedand why you talk about Koran and muslims while this guy is jewish.

Lou Stewall

The program was hilarious and fired well-aimed ridicule at the propensity of Christians to see statues crying and pay reverence to images of Christ in dirty windows, toast and tortillas. This editorial is a bit unctuous, coming from a newspaper too cowed to publish the Mohammed cartoons. I'm glad one of the best shows on TV is getting some publicity, though.

HotFoot

Have you people watched it? Have you watched the entire show (not just this episode) to put it in context? I guarantee the answer is "no". I watched it last night and it was hilarious. Yeah, I'm sure the Muslim extremists would be in the streets, but typically you bash them for their knee-jerk reactions--now, you're saying that Christians should follow them? And WP? "Curb" is on HBO--no sponsors to boycott! I can tell you've done your homework, watched the show, and formulated a measured response. Sure you have. I love this show and have never missed an episode...all your outrage demostrates is your provincialism. Yeah, and Jews have horns--didn't you know that? That is, the ones that aren't striped (only those familiar with Woody Allen will get that).

johnsontidwell

What do you expect from the idiots who make up the liberal left?

HotFoot

BTW, it's a drop of urine--which is a total accident. He doesn't urinate full-force on the painting.

xanadu

Lou: should they do a show next on the Muslim propensity for treating their women like dogs and having nothing more constructive to do with their time than run around the streets with rags on their heads, throwing rocks at the lovely sand scenery in the middle east, and screaming "Death to the Capitalist Pigs!"???

EARL84

You folks kiddin me? This is THE norm in today's liberal media. Of course it's ok to bash and ridicule Christianity. Now if the show were to do the same thing to Obama.......

xanadu

or how about we make fun of the muslim practice of having to wash the posterior portion of the body before genuflecting to the east to allah? and they only do this what? twenty times a day or so? that is funnnneeeeee!!!! i am rolling on the floor, laughing at those whacky muslims. so silly, all that washing up business!!! hahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha

johnsontidwell

Smokestack, you know why their left hand is considered unclean, don't you?

johnsontidwell

Hail the CONFEDERATE FLAG--may it fly over the SOUTH FOREVER!

LolaJean

Good point Earl84...What if this was the Black's painting of Obama? By Blacks, I mean the people from New Orleans that were living with Larry David last season. And yes, their last name is Black. Lets just say Larry was visiting them and in their bathroom was a painting of Pres Obama. He accidently pees on the painting. If this were made into some kind of joke, I wonder if Justus4, Concerned, Hotfoot and the gang would be ok with it.

HotFoot

Obviously: 1) You people do NOT watch the show (if you did, you'd know that David skewers EVERYBODY--black, white, Jew, Gentile, fat, bald--EVERYBODY, no exceptions. If anything, he comes down harder on the scions of his own Jewish faith). 2) You don't seem to realize that you have to PAY for access to this show by subscribing to HBO. No one is holding a gun to your head. LolaJean, I'd be perfectly okay with the ludicrous scene you depict, and more to the point, David would be okay with it. No one is immune, don't you get it? No, you DON"T get it...because you're mirthless Southern Christians, apparently, and so all that much more ripe to be lampooned.

1941

Editor: Have you ever seen Jesus? For goodness sake lighten up!!! It was a picture of what some races, think Jesus look like!! Jesus is a spirit!! Where did this thing, about Jesus , that he was white and had long straight hair come from? Our bible say that he had, wolly hair, and feet of bronze!!!So don't get in a tizzy about a picture of a white man, trying to potray Jesus!!!!!

LolaJean

Sorry to disappoint you Hotfoot, but I'm very joyous! You have obviously taken one too many bong hits back in your day if you think that Curb equally and with the same tone makes fun of all religouns, races, etc. I too, watch the show frequently and most of the time find it very funny. Along with Family Guy, its one of my guilty pleasures. However, the swipes at Christianity on these two shows are far above making fun of blacks and bald people. There is a big difference in laughing with and laughing at something or some group. Pay attention while you are laughing next time Hotfoot.

themaninthemirror

Would one put a picture of one's spouse, children, parents, grandparents or other cherished family memer beside the toilet where it is very probable to become defaced? No matter how Jesus is portrayed, white or black, this is a total lack of respect and also shows the comedians disdain for the Christian religion. When this comedian is burning in hell, he will be screaming for someone to urinate on him.

MrAlwaysRight

Freedom of speech guarantees the right of anyone to publish anything not considered obscene, and even obscenity is hard to censor. I detest the actions of this show but I will defend to my death their right to broadcast the material they wish. To do any less is to lie down with the hypocrites.

corgimom

Another "editorial" about a TV show. Do what I do. If I don't like something, I change the channel. The AC is confusing itself with TV Guide.

corgimom

Now, I may get flak for this, but I don't care. Justnuts- WE DON"T CARE WHAT YOU THINK ABOUT THE CONFEDERATE FLAG. You think it's an abomination? We don't care. It's not about YOU. It's history. It's legal. It's protected under freedom of speech. It legally flies over the SC Capitol. GET OVER IT. Because not flying it doesn't change history.

CobaltGeorge

1941, you now have your god (and even see him) that you worship daily. God help anybody who even misspells his name let alone if someone urinated on him.

johnsontidwell

Corgi, it is not about "changing the channel", it is about denigerating a whole religion--the one this country was founded on, my the way!! And, Mr Always, I have to agree with you, but HBO should be boycotted and subscriptions cnxed!

jackfruitpaper833

I've never even heard of this show, let alone this guy. I don't even watch HBO. Those who are born again christians here should know this for a fact, ungodly, unsaved men/women like him will continue to do things like this until they come to the revelation knowledge of Jesus Christ. As long as his eyes continue to have scales on them, he will continue in this stead (Like some of you).
