Richmond County School Board District 5 candidate Patsy Scott has far outpaced her two competitors in campaign contributions, according to filings released Monday by the Richmond County Board of Elections.
Mrs. Scott, 67, a retired nurse and the widow of the District 5 board member Joe Scott who died in July, claimed $14,160 in contributions. The deadline for such filings for the Nov. 3 election was Monday.
Candidate Aishia Leverett, a 32-year-old professional counselor, garnered the second highest contribution tally at $3,332.
James Williams Jr., 64, a property manager and associate minister, claimed $1,234, according to his filing.
A total of $8,298 of Mrs. Scott's number was separate contributions of less than $101 and therefore not listed on an itemized contributions page.

Mrs. Scott's filing listed $11,330 in total expenses, mostly involving signs and advertising costs.
Ms. Leverett's itemized contribution list includes: James Kendrick, $200; Robert Cooks, $250; the Committee to Elect Ed Tarver, $250; Y.N. Myers Jr., $200; and developer Clayton Boardman, $250.
Ms. Leverett claimed $1,699 in total expenditures, including yard sign, robo call and fundraiser deposit costs.
Mr. Williams' itemized contribution list includes Leonard Hart, $300, and the Rev. Clyde Hill Sr., $150.

please, please no more "legacy" appointments, what qualifications other than the widow of a sitting commission member does she have..yes she is educated, but in the field of nursing...does she have any training in economcs, finance, government, or civics??? to say she will carry on the legacy of her husband isn't enuff, unless you thinks poor academic achievement, low graduation rates, all high schools (other than johnson/davidson) failing to meet ayp, the 6th highest drop-out rate for black males in the entire country, consistent budget deficits, laney being designated as the 2nd worst high school in the entire state(ahead of a school for the deaf), schools/teachers not having enuff textbooks/schools supplies for all students, but always finding millions of dollars to build tracks, b-ball gymnasiums or football stadiums for highschools that year after year have low rates of graduation and fail to meet ayp....yeah i would say if that's the legacy you want to continue then vote for her....we need someone from the private sector well versed in business, economics, civics, gov't to understand the impact of tax increases has on the property owner and to emphasis education over sports.
