Advance voting week kicks off today in Richmond County with the addition of two polling sites and extended hours.

Voting sites will be open at the Richmond County Board of Elections office at 530 Greene St., the Henry Brigham Recreation Center at 2463 Golden Camp Road, and the Warren Road Recreation Center at 300 Warren Road. The locations will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.

Ballots can be cast by mail until Friday if voters give a written request to the Board of Elections office by mail or fax. A request must include the person's name, date of birth, registered address and the date of the election.

Mail requests to Board of Elections, 530 Greene St., Room 104, Augusta, GA 30901. The fax number is (706) 821-2814.

Voters can call the Board of Elections office at (706) 821-2340 to determine their district.

After three weeks of early voting, ballots have trickled in to the Board of Elections. Last week turnout increased slightly, with 137 people casting ballots, compared with 49 people the previous week and 92 the first week.

That compares with about 80,000 people who voted in November 2008 in Richmond County. Only three contested Augusta Commission seats and one school board seat are on the ballot this year.

Want to save some money Richmond County? Let people vote when they ae supposed to vote. Want to vote early? Pay for it.

Oh how I long for the days of the Walker "cheat sheet" that used to be passed around so voters knew who to vote for. This is so difficult to decide on our own.

FallingLeaves

Oh, it's still happening, saw someone pull a "cheat sheet" out in line at Henry Brigham Center and show to someone next to him last time I voted there. And a few years back, a senior that had been bustled over there with a group of other seniors from the Senior Center by "helpers" asked the lady at the desk who to vote for and the lady said "vote for 'OUR' party" and the senior said, "okay, I know who to vote for now." That lady no longer mans that desk.

Just Another Day

JUSTUS4= Let's observe instead the ignorant people going to vote with a "cheat card" of candidates given by the local democratic delegation
