Regarding Augusta Commissioner Joe Bowles' campaign platform ("Incumbent Bowles pushes smaller government," Oct. 18): It sounded good until the last line: privatizing the Augusta Municipal Golf Course.
Where did that come from? We all know there are some things broke in Richmond County. The Augusta Municipal Golf Course is not on that list; it belongs on the other list. All the folks running "the Patch" are well-trained for their jobs, hard-working and courteous. Every dollar spent is well-managed. No other golf course in the area stretches funding better. Most other cities of similar size have municipal courses. Certainly the home of the Masters Tournament should have a municipal course.
Large numbers of seniors are members. We like to meet, get our exercise and enjoy the course. I am shocked that this would be a priority area for Bowles, a person who should be working to improve both the function and image of our community.
Without a change of heart, I certainly hope the good folks in District 3 show Bowles the door.
