Politics are personal. Sometimes far too much so. But governing isn't.
That much is evident in the latest poll numbers for Barack Obama and his policies: According to a new CNN/Opinion Research Corp. survey, a majority of the country likes Obama and dislikes his policies.
The poll found that Obama's personal popularity is still in the 50th percentile, but a Rasmussen Poll says 40 percent strongly disapprove of the job he is doing while only 27 percent strongly approve. And a Gallup poll, reports Real Clear Politics, says Obama "has suffered the worst third-quarter decline in his public approval rating of any elected president in the post-World War II era.
"More sobering for Obama, Gallup reports that Obama's latest quarterly average ranks 144th, or in the 44th percentile, for all post-war presidents during any quarter."
Presidents are blamed for bad economic times -- and these are some of the worst since the Great Depression. And while the Obama administration has claimed for months that it's just cleaning up the mess from the prior administration, others point to the huge economic stimulus package the president insisted would help earlier this year -- but which appears has not.
Since the stimulus package was approved, 49 states and the District of Columbia report having actually lost jobs; the unemployment rate has soared above what Obama said would happen if the stimulus were not approved; and we've seen job losses of 2.7 million rather than the administration's projected gain of 3.5 million jobs.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll shows a majority now disagree with Obama on the issues most important to them. Clearly, it's not personal. They just don't like his policies.

Here's the most revealing part of the poll. CNN/Opinion Research ONLY polls Dems and left leaning moderates. No one else. So, only half of the lefties approve of Obama and most of them don't approve of his actions. I guess skin color will only carry you so far, even in the world of politically correct diversity.

If I may drop just a few names, Barrak Obama, Colin Powell, Micheal Steele, Ed Bradley, Condi Rice, Frank Robinson (the news personality not the ball player) Jay Jefferies, Andrea Arcenau (sp?) Thurgood Marshall, and I could continue this list for a long time. What these people have in common is the fact that they didn't sit around wait for "the man" to give them something. The only poll that supports Obama and ranks him highly was done by the ACORN Polling Association.

I am truly surprised that people are not ready to riot. The Obama administration just attempted to control the PRESS. This proves the conservatives aren't just pushing propaganda. Obama's initiative is to destroy the freedom of the press and the free market.

I attribute Obama's poll slipping to the fact that he is doing so many things he is impacting a broader audience. That is, if his only issue was a war, most likely people would love or hate what he is doing, but generally give him the benefit of the doubt. Obama, however, is addressing domestic and international issues on a level we have not seen in a president for a number of decades. I am pensive about the outcome myself because the general population does not react well to change, but I can honestly say it will be interesting to witness the outcome.
Steve, Obama has said many things, but what has he actually done? Well he has tripled the national debt, and devalued the dollar. The rising oil prices, may cause us to have a double dip recession.
The conservatives have thrown everything but the kitchen sink at our President, mostly by telling outrageous lies one after the other: the birthers, the death-panel crowd, false accusations that he is going to fund illegal immigrants (note that it is the Republicans, not the Democrats, who have pursued the Hispanic vote in a cynical effort to court illegal immigrants), and many others. They were terrified to let their children hear this wise and godly man get on TV to tell them to study in school. If the President were actually doing something wrong, the conservatives wouldn't need to tell so many falsehoods.

The national debt has tripled under Obama. The dollar has continued to decline under Obama. The price of oil continue to rise, due to the weak dollar. These are facts not lies.

GH, I keep reading that Obama has done nothing, but that is not entirely accurate. He has initiated many things, but he has completed few of them. There is a difference. I am going to withhold my judgement until I see how these cards get dealt. If he came in like a tornado, I think I would be complaining more, but things are moving at a steady pace towards predefined goals. Everyone wanted to hate Bush because the Iraq war went too long for their tastes, but I believe this exposes more about the population than the president, himself. Actions at the national level take time. In our minute to minute news-feed world, we forget this and have become an impatient people.
