Cavaliers, Wildcats advance in playoffs
Augusta Prep senior Alex Levy scored on a 20-yard strike a minute and a half into overtime to lift the Cavaliers to a 1-0 victory over Tattnall Square on Saturday in the first round of the GISA Class AAA boys soccer playoffs.
Westminster's Aaron Harris scored on a corner kick in the second minute and the Wildcats held on to beat First Presbyterian Day, 1-0.
Augusta Prep travels to Macon, Ga., to play Mount de Sales and Westminster will play at Stratford in the semifinals. Both games will be played on Thursday.
- Greenbrier senior Tracey Rhoden struck out eight to lift the Wolfpack to a 10-0 victory over Lowndes in third and deciding game of the Class AAAAA softball playoffs first round.
Greenbrier will play Collins Hill in a three-game series starting Thursday in Macon, Ga.

Mortenson carries USC Aiken to win
In Aiken, Lindsay Mortenson finished with a match-high 10 kills in regionally fourth-ranked USC Aiken's 3-0 sweep of UNC Pembroke.
USC Aiken (13-9, 5-5 Peach Belt Conference) won the games 25-23, 25-17, 25-20.
- Augusta State won a pair of non-conference contests, defeating Anderson 3-1 (25-23, 27-25, 23-25, 25-16) and Converse, also 3-1 (25-8, 25-16, 19-25, 25-11).

Lady Pacers snap losing streak at 7
In Aiken, the USC Aiken women snapped a seven-match losing streak and registered their first conference win of the season with a 2-0 victory over Clayton State.
Jenny Pineiro and Alie Brady scored for USC Aiken (3-10, 1-7 PBC).
- In Aiken, Igor Luki c, Matthias Faublas and Ryan Pugh scored goals for Clayton State, which sent USC Aiken (4-9-1, 1-5 PBC) to its sixth consecutive loss, 3-1.
Golf
Frank event is set for River Golf Club
A golf tournament will be played in memory of Michael Frank on Oct. 26 at North Augusta's River Golf Club.
Frank, the public information officer for the Aiken County Sheriff's Department, and a former Augusta TV newsman, died Nov. 29, 2008 in a car wreck.
The event will follow a modified scramble format with teams of foursomes. There will be a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Haydens' team 3rd in event at Duluth
Haydens Gymnastics' Level 4 squad placed third overall at the Ultimate Classic Meet in Duluth, Ga.
Rachel Sidow won the vault with a score of 9.1 and tied for first in the beam with teammate Kyarrah Newton , scoring 9.3.

In Lexington, Ky., Hot Cha Cha easily won the $500,000 Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland and earn a first Grade 1 win for longtime trainer Phil Sims .
l In Far Hills, N.J., Your Sum Man scored a 33/4-length victory over fellow Irish bred General Ledger in the $250,000 American Grand National Hurdle at the Far Hills races.

FIFA, WADA groups up for drug testing
Soccer's governing body and the World Anti-Doping Agency are teaming up on a project to test Europe's top players for banned drugs.
FIFA wants clubs to volunteer players to give out-of-competition samples for an individual body chemistry profile that would reveal evidence of doping.
