The 60th annual meeting of the Augusta Association of Baptist Churches starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at Southside Baptist Church, 3612 Mike Padgett Highway.

The Rev. Frank Page, a former president of the Southern Baptist Convention, will speak. Earlier this month, he announced he'd resign his post as pastor of Taylors First Baptist Church in Taylors, S.C., and move to Atlanta to be vice president of evangelization for the North American Mission Board. New chaplain

Oscar A. Jesse, a sophomore psychology major at Paine College and an Augusta native, was named chaplain of the National Pre-Alumni Council Board. The group governs local councils at United Negro College Fund colleges and universities.

Rocktoberfest

Rocktoberfest, a free Christian concert with Driven Ministries and race car driver Free Pennington, takes place from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Columbia County Amphitheater, 3300 Evans to Locks Road. Feats of strength
