Letter writer Lowell Greenbaum seems to be intellectually challenged with his fantasy of why President Obama was given -- not earned -- the Nobel Peace Prize ("Obama richly deserving of Peace Prize," Oct. 15).
However, let`s be clear on one thing: I don`t blame the president for this -- just the morons from Norway on the selection committee.
Here are some of the other nominees that were beaten out by Obama:
- Simar Samar, who is a women`s rights activist in Afghanistan who kept her schools and clinics open during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime -- at huge personal risk .
- Dr. Denis Mukwege, who founded and is the head of the Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. His life was/is dedicated to helping Congolese women and girls who were/are victums of gang rape and sexual violence.
- Hu Jia from China, who was sentenced last year to three years-plus in a Communist Chinese prison for "inciting subversion of state power." He is a human rights activists and an outspoken critic of the Communist Chinese government.
- Handicap International and the Cluster Munition Coalition, which according to published accounts are "widely recognized for their consistently serious efforts to clean up cluster bombs, also known as land mines. Innocent civilians are regularly killed worldwide because the unseen bombs explode when stepped on."
But the winner is Obama, for his hope-and-change thingy. With the likes of Jimmy Carter, etc., being awarded the "prize," and now being used for a political agenda, it has lost any semblance of something to be taken seriously anymore -- and that is really sad.

hussein is entitled to the nobel prize-
Each year, the United States give more to others in crisis than any other country in the world. Just by being the President, Obama was the top person for the award.
Ol' Bob uses flawed logic to justify his opposition to the president getting the Peace Prize, of which he is well-deserved. (U gotta be a little educated to understand this) The Nobel Peace Prize has several categories, so to compare those referenced individuals with the president is actual apples & oranges. To be accurate, the Prize is a good thing for any American to be awarded, so the focus should be on the positive example of his leadership around the world and that the "morons from Norway" thought that much of him to be selected. Then, look at this: When was a US Senator last elected to president? (an extremely difficult task) then, look at the number of African-Americans EVER been in the senate, then look at the number of years minorities have had the Right to vote, then look at his ability to speak honestly about failed foreign policies and take responsibility for his country's failures, thus demonstrating political courage. Yep, they got the right guy and those naysayers fail to recognize that the US President represents us, so when he wins, the entire country wins. If U can't understand that, u got something obstructing your view...wonder what it could possibly be...

ispy4u= well said. now to all the whiners grab a towel and go to your nearest car wash and use your tears to wash cars therefore you would be helping to save water. then you would be doing somthing worthwhile.

Good letter Mr. Warner. Saved me the trouble of writing. Just like I wrote in my post about the other letter to the editor today, justus4 sounds just like RyanB and Champ Walker, I'm leaning a little more to Champ Walker on this one. At least justus4 had been cleaning up his (or her, since I don't know for sure who justus4 is) habitual spelling and grammar errors. That makes for much easier reading.

Who cares who won the prize? It has long been a meaningless award driven by politicis to advance an agenda. When the award was given to a terrorist who was directly responsible for the death of innocent men, women and children (Arafat), a supporter and sympathizer of terrorists (Carter) and perhaps the biggest con man of the century (Gore) to advance political agendas instead of to numerous deserving people like those mentioned in the LTE who actually put their likfe on the line for peace, the significance of the award (or rather the lack thereof) is revealed. The biggest effect of the award to Barry is that another 50 to 100 million dollars of taxpayer money will be spent on yet another trip for Barry to pick up the prize.

converted, count me in the vast millions of folks who are not threatened by conservatives. I frankly like a few of your ideas, and I would even think more of them had you been able to implement them when you had the upper hand for the last 8 years. Liberals are not scared of conservatives and never feel threatened by them at all. So don't think so highly of yourselves and keep up the lower self esteem of whining and complaining.
