Clemson players stay with Swinney

Clemson players pushed hard to get Dabo Swinney the head coaching job permanently before the end of last season, and a slow start to 2009 hasn't changed their minds.

Receiver Jacoby Ford says players held a meeting after the Tigers' stunning loss to Maryland dropped Clemson to 2-3 to make sure the locker room wasn't getting ready to split.

"The message was don't quit," Ford said of the meeting. "We've still got a lot of football left to play. The season is not over and all of our goals are still right there in front of us -- we just have to go get them."

Those goals include an Atlantic Coast Conference title, still well within Clemson's reach despite a 1-2 ACC record because the only teams in front of them in the Atlantic Division are the one-loss Demon Deacons and Terrapins.

- The Tigers' game against Coastal Carolina, a Football Championship Subdivision school, on Oct. 31 will kick off at 1:30 p.m.

Clemson's athletic department said the game would available to watch on the Internet through ESPN360.com.

GEORGIA: Coach Mark Richt said that Caleb King should join the running back rotation that is still searching for consistency. King missed last week with a concussion and broken jaw, but returned to practice this week.

"Caleb King will play for sure," Richt said. "I'm not sure he'll start the game,"

Georgia's running backs have only had one 100-yard rushing game this season -- 104 yards by Samuel against Arkansas. Samuel leads the team in rushing with 317 yards, but has totaled 51 yards in the three games since Arkansas.

- Georgia linebacker Rennie Curran is among the 12 semifinalists for the Lombardi Award. The four finalists will be announced on Nov. 11 and the winner will be introduced on Dec. 9.

Curran leads the Southeastern Conference with 63 tackles. He is the only player in the SEC to average double figures in tackles at 101/2 a game, which ranks No. 15 in the nation.

TENNESSEE: Linebacker Nick Reveiz has had successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right knee.

Tennessee athletic trainer Jason McVeigh said Reveiz had his surgery on Wednesday.

Reveiz will be out for the season and limited in spring practice but should be fully recovered by next season.

The 5-foot-10, 220-pound junior tore his anterior cruiciate ligament Sept. 26 in the Volunteers' 34-23 win over Ohio.

ARKANSAS: Running back Michael Smith' s playing status remains in doubt for Saturday's game against No. 1 Florida.

Coach Bobby Petrino said Thursday the running back would be a "game-time decision" Saturday.

Smith tweaked his right hamstring in a win over Auburn last weekend. He rushed for 145 yards against the Tigers.
