Faith discussion

A Just Faith panel discussion will be at 7 p.m. today in the First Baptist Church of Augusta sanctuary, 3500 Walton Way.

The panel will discuss whether church should be a place where Christians are informed about and urged to get involved in social issues.

Bowling fundraiser

A Strike-Out Alzheimer's Bowlathon will be from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Brunswick Lanes, 3067 Washington Road.

Admission and shoes are free. People who donate at least $25 will be entered to win more than 50 door prizes. Teams of five are suggested.

Proceeds will benefit area Alzheimer's Association programs and services. Bowlers must register to participate.

Free movies

A free screening of The Class , rated PG-13, will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Augusta Public Library, 902 Greene St. Call the library at (706) 821-2600.

Fall Film Series

The Augusta State University Fall Film Series will continue at 7 p.m. Monday in University Hall, Room 170, at the school, 2500 Walton Way.

The next film will be Barry Lyndon , rated PG.

The 1975 movie, an 18th century period piece directed by Stanley Kubrick, is an adaptation of a William Makepeace Thackeray novel.

Oysters on Telfair

The fifth annual Oysters on Telfair will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, at the Gertrude Herbert Institute of Art, 506 Telfair St.

It will feature a silent auction of original art, raw and steamed oyster bars, a bayou feast, bluegrass music by the Crosstie Walkers and a full bar. Raffle tickets will be sold to win antiques, silver and art.

Tickets cost $65, or $50 for ages 35 and younger. Proceeds benefit the institute.

Nominees sought

The Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia is seeking nominations for the 2010 Women of Distinction awards.

Candidates are selected based on their accomplishments, leadership, impact on the community and effectiveness as role models for girls and women. The deadline for nominations is Dec. 11.

Veterans project

The Augusta-Richmond County Historical Society welcomes referral of World War II veterans as participants in the national Veterans History Project.

Volunteers are welcome to assist in interviews, which are held at Augusta State University and other locations in the area.

A DVD will be given to each veteran, and one will be sent to the Library of Congress in Washington for inclusion in the national program.
