Augusta area records fewer foreclosures

Local foreclosure activity fell 11 percent from August to September, reported online real estate marketplace RealtyTrac.

There were 327 properties in foreclosure in September in the six-county metro area, RealtyTrac reported Wednesday, down from 368 in August. The activity is higher than in September 2008, when only 213 properties were in foreclosure.

Georgia had a 25 percent increase from August, and South Carolina had a 30 percent increase, the company reported.

The increase in activity, the company indicated, is the result of lenders working through some of the pent-up foreclosure inventory caused by legislative delays, loan modification efforts and high volumes of distressed properties.
