SRS needs permanent jobs as well

  • Follow Letters

I have just written our four CSRA U.S. senators expressing my dismay at their approval of a directive that the Department of Energy expand the missions (and jobs) at the Nevada Test Site, without so much as a whisper that Savannah River Site needs permanent jobs, too.

Despite the short-term stimulus jobs, SRS is a dying operation with the environmental management cleanup mission terminal; the plutonium disposition program relatively short-term; and tritium too small to support the site.

We are in a death spiral and need broader support than traditional DOE missions. More aggressive and proactive action is needed from our congressional delegations, and I urge others to also contact their legislative delegations. ...

About the second time I've agreed with you justus. Keep leaving race out of every post and we'll shoot for number three.

Let's not forget that Dupont ran this SRS with fewer than 10,000 people and they had a full bore production of stuff to feed the Cold War hysteria. Now due to regulation we need many more folks; but that is a big fallicy. Once they close down and decommission these (2) reactor sites - R&P, they should finally close F, there is no M. Perhaps we could give people jobs in Forestry or in finding 3-headed frogs.

It is very hard to understand why anyone thinks that big government owes a big whack of tax money to SRS. Why in the world should the government continue supporting a socialist fiefdom here? Now is the time for 100% private money to step forward for future jobs. Boosters and special interest, where is the private money?

Typical: The above posters cry for less Gov't intervention in SRS, yet are on record posting in favor of Gov't healthcare. Let me get this straight:...we're going to pass a health care plan written by a committee whose chairman says he doesn't understand it,passed by a Congress that hasn't read it but exempts themselves from it,to be signed by a president that also hasn't read it and who smokes, with funding administered by a treasury chief who didn't pay his taxes,
all to be overseen by a surgeon general who is obese, and financed by a country that's nearly broke. What could possibly go wrong?
