A bullet struck a Richmond County school bus headed back to Augusta from Gwinnett County on Saturday, shattering glass and injuring one pupil.
The bus carrying members of a Cross Creek and Murphey Middle all-county chorus team was en route when a bullet hit it, according to a news release from Louis Svehla, the spokesman for Richmond County schools,
Parents of the pupils were notified.
The school system's public safety department is working with authorities and will be available for comment Monday, according to the release.
Alzheimer's patient found at gas station
Lumpkin County sheriff's deputies found a missing Alzheimer's patient at a service station about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to Patricia Kendrick-Walker, the senior patrol officer for the Warrenton Police Department.
Bill Smith, 75, of Warren County, went missing about 10 a.m. Saturday.
More than a dozen volunteer firefighters searched Warren and McDuffie counties, according to Warren County Emergency Management Agency Capt. Suzanne Warkentin.
Man ties up woman, steals money, rings
Richmond County police are investigating a report that a man forced his way into a south Augusta home about 8:30 a.m. Saturday, tied up a woman and robbed her.
The victim said a man rang her doorbell in the 2400 block of Peach Orchard Road asking whether he could mow the lawn. She said no, but he returned, forced his way inside and tied her hands using pajama pants and feet using a blanket, according to a police report.
The woman said he told her he would rape her if she did not stop moving and screaming. He took $45 and two gold rings valued at about $1,000 each, the report stated.
Police charge brother in woman's stabbing
A North Augusta woman treated for minor injuries early Saturday said her brother tried to stab her with a butcher's knife.
Joseph Martin Bragg, 33, was charged with high and aggravated assault and battery Saturday, according to a North Augusta Department of Public Safety report.
The woman said she and Mr. Bragg got into a fight when he arrived at the 700 block of Seymour Drive, according to the report. The woman said she asked him to keep his door open so she could make sure he was OK, which angered him, the report says.
Mr. Bragg tried to stab her in the stomach but instead cut her finger, the report says. The woman was taken to a hospital for stitches.
