Augustans react to Obama receiving Noble prize

  • Follow Metro

"This is one of many historical moments that have occurred to a very deserving person who is making a tremendous difference in the world. I think in light of all the issues we have going on right now, he is doing an excellent job in maintaining balance in each area of concern." -- Christine Miller-Betts, executive director of Lucy Craft Laney Museum of History

"I think he was in the right place at the right time. It doesn't seem to be deserved." -- Ginny Fox, 56, Martinez

"I don't know how to feel about that, to be honest. I voted for him, so I don't necessarily disagree with him, but that's pretty big. I'm not sure he's done enough yet." -- Maria Nobel, 35, Grovetown

"I don't think I have enough information to make a decision on how I feel about it. I want to know more about the process of selection and who else was nominated." -- Jenn Rose, 36, Martinez

"I think if he had ended the war I'd feel differently, but it seems a bit presumptuous. He hasn't done anything yet." -- Heather Jordan, 26, Martinez

"I believe that he deserves it due to the fact he's the only one in a political office that I've seen try to bring countries together. In that respect, it gave hope to a lot of people." -- Joeron Williams, Augusta

"I think it's great. It (Mr. Obama's approach) is a departure from the hawkish stance of previous administrations. His willingness to talk to our adversaries would go a lot farther in creating solutions to worldwide conflicts than the militaristic approach that previous administrations have had. The value of that is evident in this prize." -- John Brecht, 57, chairman of the Aiken County Democratic Party

The Declaration of

Unpublished

The Declaration of Independence talks about "All Men Are Created Equal" but the country failed miserably to meet that standard for over two hundrend yrs. (still not there) Did the country stop working to achieve that goal? No! The US Constitution provides limits to govermental intervention on individual freedoms, but have we achieved harmony yet? Again, No! The point: The Peace Prize is awarded to individuals whose philosophy and world view is based on PEACE. Our President's ideology fits that criteria, thus earning him the award. Remember, it's HARD to NOT send troops, It's HARD to speak honestly about your own country's wicked & atrocious past, It's HARD to tell fellow citizens that we are partly to blame for the violence in the Middle East, It's HARD to tell fellow citizens that there are racists among us, It's HARD to condemn your own conutry's flawed policy of kill, kill, kill, however, this president did it. He took all the "he's apologizing to Muslims around the world" or "he's being critical of the US on foriegn soil" and told the TRUTH. It appears the world was listening and recognized the makings of a Great Leader. Again, congratulation Mr. President. KEEP CHARGING!

Sure justus4, it is also EASY

Sure justus4, it is also EASY to lie....and the big O is an expert at that. Matter of fact, that's the only job he has not delegated 100% to his little kings...but then, lying is written in their contract with the big O, so it is part of their job. If the Nobel Peace Prize is given for one's ability to lie to the public, then he deserves it. And by the way J...4, slavery, as an issue, belongs among your own because it was the relatives who sold them to the Dutch. Also, you seem to not acknowledge the fact that White, indentured servants were OWNED by black slave owners and black slaves as well. So do provide the proper historical context of slavery if you feel you must expound upon it. Again, slavery was in vogue since the beginning of man; or did you forget that? It's in your Bible!

Hey Dixieland Reds! Stay

Hey Dixieland Reds! Stay glued to the news wires. The RNC is astounded and in disbelief. They're seeking to portray Obama as unworthy and they're calling for all you TRUE red-white & blues and war enthusiasts to send in money to fight the world's leftist agenda. Meanwhile the world continues to loathe and repudiate Bush and appreciate Obama. Accolades from heads of state and prominent personalities worldwide are pouring in, according to the New York Times. The Nobel committee wrote - “Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future.” No Republican has achieved such lofty height. Congratulations Mr. Obama and our nation is proud of you! Take you bow and earn your pay. Get on with the nation's healthcare and ending Bush's wars. Yes We Can!
