Bulldogs' time might have come

Butler has its best opportunity for a win in years when it travels to Josey on Saturday for a 3 p.m. game.

Both Josey and Butler are 0-5.

Butler has lost 36 games in a row, but has never faced another winless team this late in the season.

Opposing coaches say Butler's defense has been improved, though the Bulldogs have allowed opponents to score more than 30 points in all but one of their games this season.

Homecoming motivated Josey last season, when it beat Westside 18-15 for its best win in two seasons. Both Butler and Josey have failed to score more than two touchdowns in any single game this season.

Butler's last win came nearly four years ago. On Oct. 21, 2005, the Bulldogs beat Richmond Academy 21-13.

SPARTANS NEED 'W': Glenn Hills will either need to beat Hephzibah this week or Richmond Academy next week to have a chance to make a return trip to the playoffs.

The Spartans have already been defeated by two teams expected to make the playoffs from the region: Lakeside and Evans.

Hephzibah won last year's meeting 27-24. The Rebels led 21-0 at halftime, then held off a furious rally.

STEPPING UP: Grovetown will play another fledgling program this week before again challenging one of the best teams in the state.

The Warriors are at first-year program Locust Grove this week.

Next Saturday, they travel to Northside-Warner Robins, which is 5-0 and recently knocked off the top-ranked team in Class AAAAA, Lowndes.

Grovetown's two losses have both come against established teams: Fairfield Central (S.C.) and Buford.

THIS AND THAT: Richmond Academy quarterback Mar-Quon Medlock (back injury) is healthy and ready for this week's game against Lakeside; he played the first half of last week's 34-0 win over Harlem. ... Evans running back Jonathan Finch , the region's player of the year last season, has overcome a slow start and is now leading the Knights in rushing (466 yards). ... Richmond Academy's Chris Gothie is leading the area in punting (40.4 average).

Cross Creek should have won

Cross Creek should have won their game!! No excuses! I support the Razorback win or loose, this team just doesn't have that killer instinct! Once we lost a few key players, it appears that the team just game up. Let's get it together and finish out the season with our heads up regardless of our record. GO BACKS!!!
