VERONA, N.Y. --- The birdies stopped flowing on Saturday for Evans resident Vaughn Taylor, who dropped out of the lead in the PGA Tour's Turning Stone Resort Championship.
Taylor, the Hephzibah High graduate and former Augusta State golfer, combined for 11 birdies while opening with a pair of 67s that gave him a one-shot lead after 36 holes. He had just two birdies in Saturday's 71.
He also had a bogey to go with 15 pars. Taylor dropped into a tie for sixth place, three shots behind Scott Piercy and former Georgia Tech All-American Matt Kuchar.
Piercy had 66 and Kuchar 67, moving them to 14-under 202.
Rod Pampling (65) and Leif Olson (68) are a stroke off the lead.
CHAMPIONS TOUR: In Timonium, Md., Tom Watson has taken a four-stroke lead at the Senior Players Championship, shooting a bogey-free 6-under-par 64.
Watson is at 12-under 198, four shots better than Loren Roberts (65 on Saturday), John Cook (65) and Mark Wiebe (66).
Augusta native Larry Mize (70) and former Augustan Allen Doyle (71) are at 213.
LPGA TOUR: In Prattville, Ala., defending champion Lorena Ochoa shot 6-under-par 66 to take a three-stroke lead in the Navistar LPGA Classic, leaving 14-year-old Alexis Thompson eight strokes behind after 74.
Ochoa, winless in her past 11 starts, is at 16-under 200.
Sandra Gal (66) was second at 13- under, and Janice Moodie (68) and Brittany Lang (68) were 12-under.
Thompson, the Florida ninth-grader who was part of a five-way tie for the second-round lead, is now tied for 13th.
NGA/HOOTERS TOUR: In Columbia, Aiken's Kevin Kisner is tied for fourth place after three rounds of the Capitol Chevrolet Classic.
The former Georgia golfer shot 68 and is at 13-under 203, or four shots behind leader Ryan Blaum, who had 69.
Augusta's Emmett Turner is tied for seventh place after 67 moved him to 204 and Aiken's Stephen Poole is tied for 15th at 207 after shooting 69. Of the other area players, Scott Usher had 69 and is at 209 and Major Manning had 74 and is at 214.
EUROPEAN TOUR: In St. Andrews, Scotland, gale force winds forced the postponement of the third round at the Dunhill Links Championship without a shot being played. The third round will now be played today with the final round scheduled for Monday.
There is a three-way tie for the lead between Rory McIlroy, Michael Hoey and Richie Ramsay at 11-under.. Former Augusta State star Oliver Wilson is three shots off the lead.
NATIONWIDE TOUR: In San Jacinto, Calif., Derek Lamely shot 9-under-par 62 and is tied for the 54-hole lead in the Soboba Classic with Brian Stuard (64).
