Spartans win on big plays

GLENN HILLS 26, CROSS CREEK 13

PLAY OF THE GAME: With no time left in the second quarter and the score tied at 6, Glenn Hills QB Kendrick Armstrong tossed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Jonathan Lord .

PLAYER OF THE GAME: Glenn Hills sophomore running back Germaine Tait scored on runs of 54 and 76 yards and caught a pass for 36 yards.

WHY CROSS CREAK WON: The Spartans (2-2, 2-3) rebounded from a two-game losing skid. When Cross Creek narrowed it to 19-13 on a 21-yard TD run by Devonte Young in the third quarter, Terrell Fitts returned an interception 25 yards to seal the win.

WHY CROSS CREEK LOST: The Razorbacks' (2-2 in Region 3-AAAA, 2-3 overall) defense broke down twice in the last three minutes of the first half, resulting in two TDs by the Spartans.

QUOTABLE: "It hurt us the past two weeks not to win. We improvised, adapted and overcame." -- Glenn Hills coach Ernest Tolbert , who also said he had two players who lost relatives last week in the tsunami that struck Samoa.
