The final round and winner's recital in the Donald Portnoy International Violin Competition will be held today at Augusta State University's Grover C. Maxwell Performing Arts Theatre, 2500 Walton Way.
The 12 semifinalists include contestants from Hungary, Korea, Germany and China.
"It truly is an international competition," said Dr. Portnoy, the retired conductor of the Augusta Symphony.
The students are all studying music in the United States. The contest was open to violinists 16-28 years old.
"It's a chance for the community to hear some fabulous young violinists," Dr. Portnoy said.
The final round will begin at 10 a.m. The winner's recital will be at 4 p.m. Tickets for each cost $10 for adults, $5 for students, and are available through the box office or tickets.aug.edu
