Being a World War II vet, I enjoyed flying the U.S. flag in my front yard. I discovered one recent morning that my flagpole had been bent to the ground.
I am truly sorry for the person or people who did this. They have to be miserable human beings.
I miss my flag.

Sir, perhaps your flagpole was vandalized by someone who thinks leaving your flag flying, no matter the weather, is a desecration in and of itself. I am surrounded by people who fly their flags 24/7 and my father (also a WWII vet) taught me that was wrong. We put our flag out only for national holidays and tragedies and followed the proper protocols.
There is no problem displaying a flag at night as long as it has it's own light source to keep it illuminated.
hotfoot it appears that by your logic you are part of the tragedies of this country. i also fly my flag most of the time with great pride but maybe i should put it at half mast for the tragedies we are now experiencing in our current administration.
hotfoot, i dont think most vandals put that much thought into it. you seen the graffiti around here? its just tagging. awful awful awful.
That is sad. Regardless of anything is our nation's flag and your personal property.
Hotfoot - proper decorum for the flag is to retire it at night unless it is illuminated. Also if you spent any time on a military installation you would know that each has a storm flag to fly during bad weather.
This guy have gotta get a life. Yes, the flag is important but not an obsession. Yes, desecration of the flag is terrible, but one's own right (we know this was a property crime) so Democracy is hard. Men die to protect idiots, but lets try to keep it in a proper prespective.
It is perfectly acceptable to fly a flag on a flag pole at all times if it is lit at night. Justus you are a real jerk. This man fought for his country. His love for his country supercedes the hatred you carry in your black heart.
I doubt it had anything to do with the flag. Just some jerk wanting to tear up something.
justus, that's the most rambling bunch of nothing I've ever read. I think I just threw up in my mouth.
http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html "The flag should never be used for any advertising purpose. It should not be embroidered, printed or otherwise impressed on such articles as cushions, handkerchiefs, napkins, boxes, or anything intended to be discarded after temporary use. Advertising signs should not be attached to the staff or halyard"
Man, we need to get after some car dealers.
possibly some socialist who thinks "it is only a textile so what does it matter"
don't forget to swallow
Still can't get over Mondays incident in Gaffney, SC when the branch manager of Bank of America removed the American Flag from the sidewalk in front of the Bank. That flag was placed there and throughout the city in respect for the return of one of their killed service members. This demonstrates the type of loyalty that this sociality has come to. Some posters posted that the flag was nothing but a material thing and like Justus4 saying the flag is important but not an obsession. Tell that to the millions who have died for this flag.
I think it is very disturbing that a person cannot have anything without someone wanting to steal it, destroy it, or complain about it. What kind of country have we become?
It has nothing to do with a our country, disssman. It called human nature.
There are lots of fellas and gals eating sand sandwiches so Mr. Brickey can have his flag and flag pole in his yard. Destruction of property is a criminal offense, and so is trespassing. I hope law enforcement locates and prosecutes these cowardly thugs. In the meantime, Mr. Brickey, get a gun!!! And bait em up again!!!
Why not fly a Georgia flag too?
Mr. Brickey - I am sorry for the loss of your flagpole and flag. If you get another flagpole, I will be glad to help you install it in your yard. I will also provide you with another flag. I am sure there was no thought into desecrating your property and the flag. It was probably some young person who was never taught respect for himself, others, property of others, or his country. Please, sir, when you get another flagpole, send another letter to the editor and state when you would like to install your pole. I will most certainly be there to help.
My guess is: some drunken kid wanted to climb to the top and the weight of his beer belly bent the pole.
I'll tell you who. Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Schumer, Sanders, Waters, Feinstein, Boxer.
