AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Jesse Floyd Fortson, of Truxton Road, entered into rest on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the V.A. Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Monday, September 21, 2009 at Barnes Avenue Fellowship Chapel, Ft. Gordon. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Memorial Chapel with full military honors. Mr. Fortson, a native of Elberton, Ga., was retired as Sergeant First Class from the U.S. Army after 22 years of service. He was also retired from Kendall Company. For over 30 years, Mr. Fortson was a member of Barnes Avenue Chapel where he served on the Usher Board and with the Prostestant Men of the Chapel. He was also a member of the Augusta Masonic Districk No. 16. Survivors are sons, Cecil Fortson, Kelvin (Chandra) Fortson, Hephzibah, Samuel Fortson, Charlotte, N.C.; daughters, Jacqueline Leverette, Augusta, Riconda (Rodney) Williams, Chesapeake, Va.; 12 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; sister in law, Zadie Mae Blackwell, Elberton, Ga.; and other relatives.
