Today's home

When Meghan and Brandon Bottomlee were searching for a place to call home, they looked for the tell-tale sign of a good community: kids playing outside.

They found that friendly neighborhood at Knob Hill in Evans, where they participate in everything from dinner parties to football game gatherings. They've lived there since April 2007.

They love to entertain, but their home's setting and spacious yard allows them to feel as though they can get away.

"We felt like we could be a part of a neighborhood but not back up to a house," Mrs. Bottomlee said.

Their decorating is clean, simple, stylish and personal.

The master bedroom is a serene green and brown, with recessed lighting and double tray ceiling. The dining room's chocolate brown walls are trimmed with shimmering curtains that puddle at the floor.

Mr. Bottomlee is a cartographer, and his grandfather's 19th century National Geographic books are prominently displayed in the great room. Small frames with maps hang on the wall in the kitchen.

"We like to have things of some sentimental value, some identity," Mr. Bottomlee said.

The couple met at the University of Arkansas. Their bonus room is decorated with memorabilia of their alma mater.

Another room has a Maryland theme; they moved here from a Washington, D.C., suburb in Maryland. There's also a picture of the place in Annapolis where they were married.
