Shoplifters abandon baby in Food Lion
Police are seeking two women who abandoned a child in a shopping cart after being caught shoplifting.
An employee of the Food Lion in the 2100 block of Windsor Spring Road tried to stop two women he saw leaving with 26 cans of baby milk and two bottles of yogurt about 1 p.m. Friday, according to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report.
One woman fled immediately, leaving a 1-year-old in the cart. The other woman ran shortly after. Police contacted the Department of Family and Children Services, and the child was released to his father. The women face charges of theft by shoplifting and child abandonment.
Anyone with information can contact the Richmond County Sheriff's Office at (706) 821-1080.
Passenger dies in three-vehicle wreck
An Augusta man died early Saturday of injuries suffered in a traffic accident.
Earl Clark, 53, of the 5100 block of Mike Padgett Highway, was pronounced dead at 12:34 a.m. at Medical College of Georgia Hospital after a three-car collision just blocks from his home.
Mr. Clark was driving a 1988 Toyota Camry about 11:30 p.m. Friday when he asked his passenger, Karen Lamberson, to take over because he was weaving, Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen said.
Ms. Lamberson was driving northbound on Mike Padgett Highway when she attempted to turn left onto Clark Road, Mr. Bowen said. Two trucks hit the passenger side of the vehicle, and Mr. Clark had to be extricated.
Alcohol was a factor in the accident, Mr. Bowen said. Charges are pending against Ms. Lamberson, he said.
Four men break into home; resident injured
Authorities are searching for four men who broke into a home Friday night and assaulted and threatened occupants.
According to a Richmond County Sheriff's Office report, the men entered the home in the 3400 block of Old McDuffie Road about 11:15 p.m.
A resident said he fought with one of the intruders, who pulled a revolver from his pants and shot twice, striking him on the left hand.
A 14-year-old said he was hiding under a bed when two of the intruders picked up the bed and threw it across the room. One then pointed a handgun at him and told him to be quiet or he would shoot him.
The victim did not know whether anything was taken. He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital. A hospital spokeswoman said Saturday that she had no information on the man's condition.
One intruder is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall and 250 pounds. He was wearing a red shirt over his face and had a small revolver.
A second man is described as black, about 30 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 200 pounds. He was wearing a navy blue shirt and had a silver-colored handgun.
There was no detailed description of the other two men.

This is CHANGE we can belive in.
So let me get this right - The mother cares enough about the kid to steal food for it - then leaves it?
Hey,ASSitisinaugusta, How in the world can you justify linking this event to Obama?
MeFirst...There isn't just any one event listed above so mabye you subconsciously linked Obama to a specific one but in my opinion, since this administration took over, you have seem far to many events such as those above along with violent crime and people who believe they are owed whatever they want and yet this government wants to enable them even more.
Abandoned a child when busted shoplifting? How old was this "woman"? I wonder if she's related to the woman who abandoned her child after the car wreck. Some societies have a perspective toward children that I don't understand. I wonder if the current mother in question is also a product of our subsidies programs. Is this trend too obvious to mention?
Home invasions in the black neighborhoods are becoming WAY too common. What's the stimulus? Drugs? Revenge? Coincidence?
The drop out summit will skip and dance around the subject that all know needs to be breached, but NONE will. The government uses the subsidies programs to remove personal responsibilities from the family. (unintended consequences?) As long as the root cause is denied or avoided, no solution will be found.
What two idiots. When did Old McDuffie Road become part of a " Black Neighborhood"? Also, I guess Bush is responsible for all of the crime that occurred during his Presidency, according to ASITIS warped mind?
Here we go again! I love the funnies on Sunday morning..
It's in the South Augusta neighborhood. Only ignoramuses like you and your ILK divide it according to race.
Human beings acting like black are black, human beings acting like rednecks are rednecks.
She wasn't stealing the formula for food, she was stealing it to sell for crack money. The yogurt was the food part.
How do you know this lady was going to sell the formula for crack? That aside, she should get the book thrown at her for child endangerment.
Go live in the projects for 3 years, like I did. Baby formula is the most frequently shoplifted item from a grocery store. It's better than cash money in the projects.
isp, I also should mention to you that baby formula is used to cut cocaine- "to step on it" and dilute it down.
I am just asking the question. I appreciate the answer.
When I worked at a grocery store, we kept baby formula behind the counter in a glass case away from customers. Cashiers had to get the formula and put it on the checkout counter.
Moms running off on there children, what a sick world we live in. Who could run off and leave their child? I really hate drugs. I have seen drugs ruin families, but the drug war will never be won. Its time to legalize and regulate drugs.
I recently heard a Black comedian say during his routine that "Man we got us a black President!I feel like I can sell weed right in the middle of the stree!".....Of course the audience cheered and clapped...perhaps this is the attitude of the masses..Maybe just maybe barrys speech should have been directed to the criminal element.
Yeah, I know I feel that way. As soon as he was elected I thought even though I have never had a drink nor smoked in my life, I can now go out in the street and get messed up. Hell, I will even go get my truck "tricked out". If that is the right term.
Yes, we are at the point that if we believe in the Koran we can do anything.
LOL ispy4u... You can't blame a president for crime. Its the liberal judges who keep letting the repeat offenders off easy. Why IDK!
Those 3 years were an educational experience. I had never lived anywhere that reeked of despair and hopelessness and misery. There were some good people there, but it was a very depressing place to live.
Another death on hwy 56, new name for the stretch of Hwy 56 between Tobacco Rd. and Browns Rd., Death Hwy! A plan was proposed and approved back in '05 to put a turning lane and median barrier up along that stretch but no money was allocated. How many more must die? How many more will loved ones due to the disregard for the residents of S. Aug? My son was killed on this road on August 8 of this year due to the lack of a turning lane, he was just 18. My family has lived on this road for more than twenty years and have seen many deaths occur on it, two right in front of our house. If nothing else the county could increase patrols and speed traps to get the message across to slow down. May if the patrollman that sit in Yancey Hvy Equip.'s parkinglot every night for hours would sit on the road........
Augusta is really living up to his name... Disgusta!!
Now we don't have a "projects" we closed that down and opened up section8 to get the people out into every neighborhood for some socializing. Unfortunately we forgot "you can take them out of the projects, but you can't take the projects out of them" most of them act like animals with little or no regard for anyone but their drug dealing friends.
This really sickens me! People act like the only drug dealers and low lifes in the county live in "projects and section 8" and imply that they are all black. Give me BREAK!!!!! There are just as many low lifes that live in trailer parks, housing developements, on dirt roads, etc. and that are white, brown, yellow and every other color you can imagine. Open you *&^%ing eyes people!!! The problems of which you speak cross all boundaries and are not race specific!!
southern ....I'm sure you are right. But it seems there are more violence in some communities. The residents of those areas should become active and call for help when they see shootings and drugs. Most are afraid or don't want to report these crimes and the bad guys know this. So..on it goes.
If the people that SHOULD have been the first line of defense and pro-active against crime in the subdivisions I lived in had done THEIR job, it wouldn't have fallen on me to do it. Instead they fled the city and county or turned a blind eye. I can't blame them, considering what I went through. It just is what it is. Case in point: Law-abiding citizens of Harrisburg are harassed for years by alleged drug dealers and their codependents. So who gets "warned" by the police? The law-abiders who are on this rare occasion protesting the endless ongoing alleged suspicious activities. I guess it's safer to target law-abiders than the alleged criminal elements. For the police and citizens that do their job conscientiously and pro-actively, I offer my prayers of support and sincere appreciation. You know who you are.
southernbel, no they arent the only ones, but they have become such a large dependant group that their large numbers produce large numbers of irresponsible reckless trash who value nothing, not even the free homes they are living in. Most of them are violent criminals. The ideas to help the poor and needy started out good, and there are some in these programs that deserve help, but unfortunately most have learned to work the system and they raise their kids to be the same exact way. It goes on and on and on. There are many different races that do this, you are correct, but the government has now let this run on so long without punishing those who do not deserve help its become uncontrollable. Now they are spreading these p.o.s's with no respect for anything including themselves into good hardworking peoples neighborhoods. At least don't punish the good people. Leave them in isolated areas and maybe they will have a reason to work to get out. Instead they spead them around to ruin more neighborhoods and lives! As I said they arent the only criminals but they have become such a cradle to the grave mass with little/no morals, you would have to be blind not to see the damage they do.
