Jeff and Janet Baumgardner's North Augusta home reminds them of a Central American adventure they shared more than 10 years ago.

"We lived in Belize for a while, right on the Caribbean," said Mrs. Baumgardner, who managed a small resort. "When we came back (to the U.S.), I said I want to be on the water. It took a couple of years, but we did it."

Five years ago, they found a home in Campbell Towne Landing that was on the Savannah River.

Their home, built in 1998, is one of 44 in the two-street neighborhood, which is off of Hammonds Ferry Road south of Riverview Park.

The home features multiple decks facing the water. The view from the family room is unobstructed by sliding glass doors, which are paneled in single sheets of glass.

"This is one of those few places you can walk directly up to the river," Mr. Baumgardner said.

A private boat dock is used to launch a pontoon boat and canoes and kayaks.

"On Saturday afternoon you can just sit here and be entertained by all the rowers," said Mrs. Baumgardner, an Ohio native who moved to the city 24 years ago.

"It's a sanctuary. It's so peaceful. Nobody knows it's here," Mrs. Baumgardner said.

Thereis a hammock on the patio, which leads out to the gardens, lawn and dock.

"It doesn't get any better than this," Mrs. Baumgardner said. "The only thing this doesn't have that the Caribbean has is the waves."
