Conservatives should protect their own

  • Follow Letters

Cartoonist Rick McKee's caricature of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford was cleverly done. I'm sure it will be picked up by the Associated Press and used to inflict more damage on Sanford's character.

As a conservative, I feel that we miss the boat when it comes to protecting our own. Case in point: Look at the way the Associated Press handled Ted Kennedy concerning Chappaquiddick. He came out smelling like a rose. Then look what they -- the liberal press -- have done to former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

We don't throw family members out of the house when they do wrong. We correct them, pray for them and get them on the right track. We don't listen to others (Associated Press, etc.) to tell us how to take care of our own.

If we don't start taking care of those who think conservatively, the day will come when we'll all be little Obamas. God forbid.

Speaking as a conservative I don't think we should protect ANYONE in politics who has done wrong. I'm sorry but when you go into public life you become a person that should live above reproach to the best of your ability. You should be someone that others strive to emulate. You wouldn't expect a police officer to be able to steal something when not physically on the job and get away with it. Why should we hold our politicians to a different standard? BTW, Palin didn't do anything wrong as she has proven time and again to ethics committees, the democrats just attacked because they felt threatened.

Gee, Bill, I cannot believe you are serious. A crook is a crook regardless of which side of the aisle he sits. As a Republican don't you want to hold yours to a higher standard than Democrats. Both parties should eject those than disgrace the office they hold. As an independent I expect that.

I do not remeber anyone proving Sanford has done anything illegal yet. Now, Charlie Rangel, well, there's a horse of a differnet color, so to speak. And if he weren't a Democrat AND a horse of a differnet color, he would have been ousted from his chair as the leader of the Ways and Means and maybe ousted from the Congress. He PROBABLY would be under federal indictment by now. But since he is a Democrat and a black Democrat nobody is even raising an eybrow. There are a lot BIGGER FISH TO FRY than Sanford if you are REALLY LOOKING FOR CROOKS. Now, if you just want a Republican to throw rocks at I guess Sanford will do. BUT IF YOU WANT CROOKED POLITICIANS LOOK AT RANGEL, DODDS, GEITNER, and a few others with the (D) after their name you bunch of hypocrites. Where is you indignant righteousness when the crooks are Democrats and especially black Democrats. Where is your anger when the Chairman of the House Ways and Means has been hiding over half of his income for more than 10 years while he sits and calls for heavier penalties for citizens who evade paying taxes. HELLO, I CAN'T HEAR YOU CALLING FOR HIS HEAD ON A PLATE.

The media could never do more damage to Sandford's character than he has already done to it himself. And it's not what Sandford did with his Latin lover. It''s the hypocrisy, stupid. Republican Gomorrah. Craig, Vitter, Ensign, Haggard, and all the C Street mafia who believe they are the Chosen, and so the rules don't apply to them. Do as I say, not as I do, should be their motto. We need to be protected from them and their craziness. How about they all go to Texas, declare soverignty, and secede. Then the adults would have these children in their playpen while they get on with actually governing the country and getting past a rerun of the Scopes trial.

FaceTheMusic

They ALL make mistakes, Republicans and Democrats alike. The problem is that the Republicans spout "family values" over and over and over and wave their Bibles around for all to see--and THEN they go out and do the same things. That's the problem; and that's the hypocrisy.

Sanford has lost the trust and support of the majority of the voters of SC. He needs to face the fact that there is nothing to be gained for SC by his remaining in office except more embarrassment and his ability to govern effectively has long been gone.

Southernguy, read all of the polls. Your side fares way worse. Bill, Kennedy has never come out looking like a rose to anyone over Chappaquidick. That sounds like the kind of sheet the Chronicle makes up without thought. What has the press done to Palin except cover her and air what SHE says. She's got nodody to blame for her idiocy but herself. And if you say we don't throw family members out of the house when they do wrong, why does that statement not apply to Democrats as well? More hypocritical blather from they that wrote the book...

I feel so much better after listening to our president last night. He has certainly cleared up many misconceptions that we had about the reform. We can only hope that the bill will become law soon and our president can sign it into law. We are all very excited after the joint session last night of democrats and Republicans.

southernguy08, The Dems don't go around championing family values and Christian morality, and they are not homophobic and trying to limit rights of gays. Those Repubs are the worst of the hypocrites, because they do privately what they publicly condemn. The Dems never put themselves out their as righteous born-again Christian family men like Sandford and all the rest. That's the difference. Get it?

jackfruitpaper833

LOL McKee's cartoon will NOT be picked up by the AP, he's not that good.

jackfruitpaper833

OMG the polls are up 14% after Obama's health care speech last night *Looks over at southernguy08* OMG did you see, did you see LOL...

There is no doubt Conservatives hold politicians to a much higher standard than do the DIMocRATS. One only has to look at how many Repubs who forgot who sent them to D.C. are no longer in office. Look at the DIMs on the other side such a Charlie Rangel, who's Ways and Means committee writes the very tax laws he has violated but is given a free pass. Same for Geithner. GHW Bush was excoriated by the DIMs. (along with the Washington Poop), for giving his speech to America's students , even holding hearings for spending the money . Not a peep from the MSM and only adulation by the DIMs for BimbObama doing the same at a lot moe cost (in class room materials). Sanford has been a political target from both partys over his affair, but Ted the drunken Toad spent 40 years in Congress even though he killed a young innocent woman and mauled female servers at the Brassarie restaurant (along with his buddy good ole Chis Dodd).
Double standard? You bet your arse.

Obama's polls will drop faster than they went up. I can't comment on his healthcare speech because I didn't listen to it! Just didn't have the time to waste on more lies!!!

southernguy08, Dems give occasionally give lip service to family values. But they do not wear their religion on their sleeves, as the right wing conservatives do. They don't campaign as if those issues like abortion, gay rights, and morality as they define it are the most important. Instead, they are not as hypocritical because they don't try to tell others how to live. Like what a woman can do with her body, or what a couple can do in their bedroom. It's the Repub right that does those things and then proceeds to violate them in their private lives. Now do you get the difference?

Mark Sanford had an affair. That is between him and his wife. However, if he used state funds to enable that affair, that is between him and the citizens of South Carolina. The people of South Carolina elected him, they should be the ones to say whether or not he stays in office. However, any state funds used for personal affairs should be repaid to the state. This goes for anybody, including obama, who uses state or federal funds for their personal fun.As for protecting him, no. I would not protect anybody that committed a crime. We should hold those who we elect to represent us and to serve us to a higher standard, I don't care of he/she is republican or democrat. They represent us, the citizens. Any negative publicity such as this is a scar on the citizens.

southernguy08, The Repub Christians basically want to control people. They want to dictate morality to everyone else. The liberal Dems are more live and let live. When they get caught cheating on thier wives, for example, they can say they never were trying to live up to some impossible standards. The Repubs, on the other hand, still cling to the illusion that they are better than others and that with a little determination they can maintain their values. Of course it's not humanly possible to be perfect, but they try to maintain the illusion. At least the Dems are more realistic and honest. How's the crow tasting?

WhippingPost

jadex, so weak. I'm sorry you hate God so much. Your mentors have done you no favor. As far as having no standards to live up to, do you think that makes a Dem a better person. (p.s., God still loves you)

disssman

Bill apparently Ms. Stanford didn't hear your plea, and went ahead and kicked his sorry butt out of the house. But, I almost forgot that was after the numerous religious indoctrination meetings between him and his pastor. Just goes to show that the devil was an angel before he made god mad. Unlike Whippingpost, I don't think god is a CONservative, in fact I believe he is a full blown liberal.

jedex6

I don't hate God. God is imaterial to me. I don't hate the Easter Bunny either. No, I don't think Dems are better people. That is exactly my point. The Repubs think they are morally superior. Which is why they fall all the more further when they are exposed.
