Patsy Scott, a candidate for the Richmond County District 5 school board seat and a retired educator, believes in working positively and constructively with others.

With her credentials and such a winsome attitude, it is my strong hope that voters will elect a strong candidate who will work tirelessly for all the children of Richmond County.

And it is my strong hope that voters will elect a strong candidate who will insure that the RCBOE contracts go through a fair and open bid process and are awarded based solely on qualifications and, within the qualified bidders, the lowest bid. Remember folks, the school board has little or no impact on your child's education. The teachers take care of that. There is a REASON school boards are POLITICAL positions. That is because they are handing out taxpayer MONEY and most of your property taxes go to the school board. You know, those folks who you know little or nothing about and whose backgrounds and positions on issues are rarely covered by our local media. THEY SPEND MOST OF YOUR TAX MONEY. We already know what kind of a returen we get for that money......and it is a very poor return. One of the worst school systems in the country. And it isn't because we don't give them enough money. Our tax rates are high, very high, even for a REAL city, which Augusta is not. Elect people to the school board who are for responsible and open government. Do not elect someone out of sympathy or because they are the spouse of someone who served. Look what we got in Blackmail Betty Beard.

i think it's time to elect non-educators to the school board, "retired educators" have been sitting on school boards, probably since their creation. count the number of "retired educators" currently sitting on richmond county's school board...how have their decisions improved education???? 1) rich cnty ranks 6th in the entire nation regarding the percentage of drop-out rates of black males, 2) laney was designated as the next to worst school in the state, 3) a failure all high schools in richmond county to meet ayp, pass the crct, 4)most high schools have graduation rates at or below 60-65%, and lastly wasting scarce taxpayer dollars on wasteful, useless and ineffective programs that offer little if any positive return on taxpyaer's investment, combine that with their decisions to allocate funding for football stadiums/b-ball gymnasiums for school that can't even meet ayp or pass the crct...what the taxpayers of richmond county needs are board members that demand achievement in the CLASSROOM first and foremost and the guts to refuse to approve any spending on extra curricular activities if the school does not meet ayp/crct or a 75% graduation rate
