Remember those days of yesteryear?

  • Follow Letters

A few really good things about the good old days -- I'm so old I can remember when:

- flying was fun.

- a federal offense was something really big;

- the best drivers on the road drove big rigs;

- people did not lock their doors at night;

- people were responsible for taking care of themselves;

- patient care was between a patient and a doctor;

- Sunday was treated as the Sabbath;

- voting was a privilege, not a right;

- music was melodic;

- university teachers were objective;

- girls were "sugar and spice and everything nice;"

- and the American Bar Association and the public thought it unethical for lawyers to advertise over the airways.

voting a privilege?? I don't

voting a privilege?? I don't think so. privileges can be taken away. I guess to this letter writer, freedom of speech is not a right, but yet a privilege that the govt can take away at will.

Hillguy - According to the

Hillguy - According to the Supreme Court in its 2000 ruling, Alexander v Mineta, it decided that voting is not a right, but a privilege granted or withheld at the discretion of local and state governments. Voting is a right, but it is also a privilege. Not everyone in the United States may vote. As a general matter, only those who have reached a certain age, are mentally competent, and are American citizens, are allowed to vote. However, felons usually can't vote. Probably moreso, it is the duty of every American - get out and vote.

Also:
People would scrape poo from the bottom of toilet bowls before going on welfare or accepting the government dole
Young males actually wore their pants up around their waists, with belts.
Girls didn't go out in the street dressed like hookers -- unless they were hookers.
Cheerleaders actually did cheer routines and not Strip Club Pole Dancing 101 moves.
Gas prices changed every week or so, not every few minutes.
America actually exported more goods than they imported.
American cars were the bomb and everyone all over the world wanted an American made car.

There was a time when the

There was a time when the water was clean and the air was pure. Forest flourished, and there were plenty of fish, deer and buffalo. There were no taxes and no government. If you got sick the doctor came to you and the whole community worked to make you better. What you believed was only relevant to yourself and people were encouraged to explore the supernatural in their own way. Men hunted and fished, women got to cook and spend time in the garden, and children were always surrounded by family. And then the white man came along to improve on that system.....

HILLGUY, freedom, any kind of freedom, IS A PRIVILEGE! It is not guaranteed by our government, but by the veterans who have defended it with their lives. It can be taken away by your government, and little by little, it is!

"The white man knows how to make everything, but he does not know how to distribute it" Tatanka Yotanka. I just finished rereading Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee so I couldn't resist. This book needs to be required reading in all schools across America.

It must be nice to wake up

It must be nice to wake up every morning and have someone to blame for your short comings. The radical left is in power now. I don't understand why are you still blaming the "System" on your short comings? What will it take to satisfy your endless escape goats?

"escape goats"? Mine escape

"escape goats"? Mine escape all the time. They can find a little hole in the fence and sneak through it or sometimes they just jump the fence. I don't blame them, that's just the way goats are.

Kids were seen and not heard,

Kids were seen and not heard, kids had respect for their elders, parents were parents and not trying to be friends with their kids, families had two parents, grandparents lived nearby as did aunts and uncles. Kick the can, stick ball, climbing trees, hide and seek were all played until midnight and nobody complained. Kids could leave in the morning to go to a friend's house and stay all day and nobody worried. Bikes were ridden everywhere. No drive by shootings, no drugs in the streets. Friday nights were spent at the drive-in theater with friends.

Niko, move forward with Marx

Niko, move forward with Marx and Lenin, that what the manifesto declares. The STATE the STATE, all hail the all powerful STATE. Keep marching toward the wall until the wall moves. This may take a century or a decade or seven months. Socialism is inevitable in economics/power as life/death of the strong is to Darwinism.

And starving Jews, non white

And starving Jews, non white Rusians and Asians by Stalin was just a necessary population fix. We don't talk much about the millions killed under Soviet Communism. Five year plans that allowed "capitalism" to exist to save the country's economy and then return to collectivism. We don't talk about the results of the "great revolution" in CUBA either. Frozen in the "sixties". Boy CUBA is a real "gem of prrogressive life". Yes, let's see, CUBA had some bad rich people too. Kill the rich and we will have a "utopian society".

HILLGUY, have you ever noticed what the Bill of Rights is printed on? That's right...paper! Guess what it's worth without our veterans standing behind it. YOUR FREEDOM IS A PRIVILEGE...NOT A RIGHT! If you don't believe me, take a little boat ride down to old Fidel's Cuba. You'll find out real fast that rights can be taken away by government. This administration, his blind followers, and this idiot congress seem to be Hellbent to do just that.

Bringing us to a more recent

Bringing us to a more recent date - 8 years ago, GW Bush was accused of everything imaginable, even the destruction of the World Trade Center by some radicals. We were told not to trust him and his administration. Apparently we learned the lesson well because we now have no confidence in the current crop in Washington, not O and his henchmen or Pelosi-Reid and theirs.
----What is a body to do? We sure as heck canNOT trust Obama.
