Rally to amplify health care concerns

  • Follow Letters

While it is far too late to derail some decisions already made by the current administration, which seems to operate sans opposition, the health care reform dubbed "Obamacare" has yet to be decided upon.

Town hall meetings -- a deceptive, revitalized phrase to ensure that the average American citizen feels his/her voice is being heard -- have been held across this once-great nation for several weeks. There is no shortage of coverage of these through national media outlets -- most of which depict angry crowds engaging in verbal fisticuffs. Neither the proponents nor the opponents are accurately informed (nor, it seems, is Congress).

It is human nature to fear the unknown, and there is much unknown about this recent reform. Adding to this fear is the recent history of edicts handed down from Washington. The economic reforms were pushed through Congress at such an expedited rate that many senators and representatives barely had a chance to read the lengthy document.

To prevent further rash decisions based on zero research, citizens are gathering for a Stop ObamaCare (SOC) Rally. Politicians, medical professionals and people who have experienced socialized health care firsthand are slated to speak and will take questions from the audience.

Citizens are encouraged to bring socks to the SOC Rally. There are plans to mail these to Washington in disapproval of the current proposed health care reform. Boxes will be purchased from the Postal Service, which is in dire need of economic stimulation.

There are rumors that said socks needn't be clean. I encourage people to attend the rally to be informed on important issues; possibly have their voices heard; and, if nothing else, stuff a box with their week-old socks.

Regardless of political views, everyone can agree that those in Washington need to be reminded who pays their salaries. I can think of no better way than to send them laundry that we can no longer afford to wash.

Chris Phillips

Augusta

(The rally will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Jessye Norman Amphitheater on Riverwalk Augusta.)

why are liberals so angry

why are liberals so angry they have all the power in dc and the national media yet they get so bent out of shape when people disagree with them. please refer to the heritage foundation for an accurate view of the bill hr3200 not copperhead. and quit your wining about doctors you are so jealous it is embarrassing. and i am married to a nurse and hear all kind of stories but none like you state. and a bill doesnt have to state it in exact words use some deductive reasoning. if the bill states to reduce repayment to dr and hospitals in medicare they will have to goe out of business or cut benefits use your head.............

GACOP, the number of posts you've already made this morning shows you've got a job that gives you way too much idle time. No wonder you can't afford health insurance. Go back to school and get the training and education for a better job and STOP WANTING THE TAXPAYERS TO TAKE CARE OF YOU!!!!

I posted straight from the bill to back my points, not someone's interpretation of it. It's only 7:00, southern, on Wednesday, yet I already have 22 hours in at work. How many do you have in? Not one person has yet to post a single piece of text from HR3200 that backs their view, nor has anyone answered how, if I pay 23% income tax, SSI and Medicare, and BUY the government option plan, they are "taking care of me" ?

Mr. Republican, Rush Limbaugh

Mr. Republican, Rush Limbaugh minion, the Democrats have no opposition in Washington right now because your party did such a fantastic job running the country from 2002-2007: our democratic nation voted the vast majority out. The people of the CSRA aren't stupid, you know? You don't have to talk down to us: who doesn't know politicians' salaries are ALWAYS paid by the citizens of our great country.

Gacop and nofan: I'm a CCU

Gacop and nofan: I'm a CCU nurse and have not seen anything like described above to increase costs. I have seen doctors wish continue a code when it was hopeless. I dont think it was to "play God", I think it was that they were young docs (residents) who hadn't had much experience and didn't want to give up. We (the nurses) had to tell them that if they if they wanted to continue they would have to do it themselves. After a short while they finally gave up (try 2 1/2 hours of CPR, even swapping among 3 nurses, we were physically spent). I also have seen doctors overide the patients wishes because the family insisted on it. So much for living wills, be sure that ALL members of your family know your wishes and that you wish them to be followed. That being said nofan, I wouldn't exactly call The Heritage Foundation an impartial source. Check their funding and you will see that it's the same as all the other right wing "think tanks" (Walton Family, Scaife, Castle Rock (Coors), Koch, Olin, etc).

We are organizing a Join

We are organizing a Join Obama Care ( J.O.C.) rally. We encourage everyone to bring a jock strap to mail to the Republican officeholders. There are rumors that the jocks needn't be clean. Stuff a box with your week old jock strap and we'll use UPS or Fedex to demonstate that shipping costs would be 10 to 50 times higher under a private company than the USPS. If nothing else, it will tell the Republicans to grow a pair and discuss HR 3200 on its merits and faults and not just spread lies about it. Maybe Billy and Co. will run a good half dozen or so editorial and letters to promote our rally as he has done for this group ( and still 2 days to go).

I love the way the liberals

I love the way the liberals call people traitors. The truth of the matter is that had there not been those who were willing to speak up and be heard and had there not been those who were willing to fight and die for their cause this country would not exist today. Men that saw their freedoms being taken by a government that was not for the people but for itself and those who governed. These brave men not only spoke their minds but they did something about the problem. They did so even though for many it many great losses. I believe that if the George Washington and Patrick henry were alive today they would be out there leading once again against an adminsitration set on degrading this great nation. They would be ready to take up arms if need be to right the wrongs. Lets hope that the people of this nation wake up to what is going on and quit letting our government take away our rights. It is time to get up out of the recliner and stand up for your rights.

gacopperhead-george

gacopperhead-george washington said a free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government thomas jefferson wrote the strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is,as a last resort,to protect themselves against tyranny in government

First let me say Ga Cooperhead has a right to thread as much as he like Sothernguy, and judging from how often you yourself thread you have no right to question how much time he has on his job to do so..Second, I love protest, it is good, I just don't thi nk these protesters have anything to say i care to hear; but I admire any group willing to lawfuly organize and express their views...What the supporters of healthcare reform need to do is organize a rally to show support...Seems being a community organizer is popular by those who once joked about it...Shoes' on the other foot, and such is the humor of life and circumstances..

techlover i did not say

techlover i did not say anything about the political leanings of the heritage foundation i stated i believe them to be an accurate think tank. conservatives will be glad to discuss the ins and outs of hr3200. in the end we all want better health care and more reasonable rates. both sides of the equation. but i and others cannot find any examples of govt run programs that are not are over budget not full of fraud and even run that way they were intended. we put our faith in ourselves and friends not govt.. just remember a govt big enough to promise everything can also take it away. this my fear.

nofan: Sort of accurate. As

nofan: Sort of accurate. As in "$1,040: The average tax increase if President Bush's tax cuts expire." Heritage Foundation .Clearly designed to make everyone think that their taxes will go up $1,040. I make $1 million a year. 9 others make $10K a year. Our AVERAGE income is $ $109,000. Accurate statement but it doesn't convey the real truth. It sounds like we each make over $100K. One person's taxes goes up $100,000, 99 others taxes don't go up at all, average tax increase $1,000 yet it doesn't effect 99% of the people.

nofan, how do you get reform

nofan, how do you get reform without govt intervention. Do you think the insurance companies are just going to change the way they do business because we say we want reform. That is the problem with people that say they hate govt in turn you leave business to screw us the wall street debacle and ins companies 80% rate increase and 400% increase in profits last 8 yrs. Do you think they will reform themselves with those type of numbers.

Gee TECH, and you call conservatives uncivilized. And GACOP, you do want the taxpayers to take care of you because you want a taxpayer funded healthcare system in place. And don't give me that "option" crap. If that were true, Odumba and this idiot congress wouldn't have felt the need to exempt themselves from this bill. Are you saying you work 24 hour shifts? What are you, an ER doctor? If so, I'm sure you can afford health insurance.

Copper - I have told you

Copper - I have told you before to read WHAT treason is. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees the right of all Americans to advocate the violent overthrow of their government unless such advocacy is directed toward inciting imminent lawless action and is likely to produce it (Brandenburg v. Ohio, 395 U.S. 444, 89 S. Ct. 1827, 23 L. Ed. 2d 430 1969]). However, we have stated ON THIS FORUM many times we believe it is time for health care reform. However, this IS NOT the way to go. If you need health care insurance, GET AN EDUCATION AND GET A BETTER JOB - or get a second job. Health care is not a right. There are only 3 rights established by the constitution:life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. If you wish to spend all of your money pursuing happiness, that is not my fault.

Why is it the liberals so

Why is it the liberals so want the government to take over their lives? Why do they so want to be slaves to this government? Why do they need someone to tell them what to do? Are they so unsure of themselves they cannot make up their own minds so they NEED some government flunky to tell them what to do, when and what to eat, what kind of car to drive, where to bank, where to live. It sure seems that way to me. I have lived with government controlled health care. It was not good. You think there are misdiagnoses now, just wait until there are not enough doctors or nurses. Course, techlover is probably a member of the SEIU

Here we go again. The white negro president haters and minorities in need of white validation will have a ego-inflating rally to complain about why they should not help their fellowman with health care. Typical counterfeit Christian rhetoric. The baffoons should be rallying against all the lazy, obese, unhealthy slobs, consumers of alcohol and tobacco who are overburdening our health care systems. Obama did not cause these unhealthy lifestyles. The companies who sell these unhealthy products are controlled by white conservative republicans. The Mark Sanford hypocrite kind.
