Busch, MillerCoors will raise beer prices in fall

The nation's top brewers said Tuesday that they plan to raise prices this fall, even as some of their top brands are seeing sales volume drop.

Anheuser-Busch, the maker of Bud Light and Budweiser, and MillerCoors, the maker of Blue Moon and Miller Light, both say they're going to raise prices, but neither would say how big the increases would be.

MillerCoors spokesman Pete Marino said the increases will be made on a local basis, depending on the market.

"Pricing has been very strong on the MillerCoors portfolio, and we believe that we can take a moderate price increase in the fall," he said.

Also on Tuesday, Anheuser-Busch said it is dropping its "Fan Cans" promotions from communities around the country where colleges have complained that the effort - which sells cans of Bud Light in school colors - promotes underage drinking and infringes on trademarks.

$1.7 million grant will help Goodwill project

Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia Inc. will receive a $1.7 million Economic Development Administration grant, the U.S. Commerce Department said Tuesday.

The money will be used to help convert a commercial shopping center in Augusta into a career campus. Last week , the Development Authority of Richmond County approved the sale of up to $8 million in industrial revenue bonds to get the campus started.

Goodwill has an option to buy Village West Shopping Center on Washington Road, expected to close next week. It will initially renovate some of the space for a store and job connection location.
