First 'Roe v. Wade,' now health care

With South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's expected withdrawal from politics, we have lost another strong voice for America. We don't have to agree with everything he says; still, his voice will be missed.

This one silent voice doesn't concern me as much as the voices that have been silenced since the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision. These voices would be in their 30s now. We will never know how many great leaders were silenced. It could be that the discoverer for the cure for cancer was silenced. It has been calculated that had these innocent babies been buried, the cemetery would be 100 miles wide by 100 miles long.

I don't believe that the majority of Americans agree with that decision. It was something politicians forced on us. Now those in authority over us are forcing the medical-care bill on us. Where is the nation of the people and for the people gone? We need to pray to God to deliver our nation out of the mess that is enveloping us.

Good points, Bill. Besides being murder and perhaps costing us medical scientists, abortion has deprived us of numerous homeowners so that we have a glut of unsold homes. What's more, we lack enough young wage earners, and that could explain why national health care will need death panels and end-of-life counselors to cut costs by trimming the number of elderly beneficiaries. Since we reap what we sow, we shouldn't be surprised if the generation that wanted legalized abortion gets hit with rationed health care and mandatory euthanasia.

GACopperhead

Yes, I'm sure you miss Sanford's voice for hypocricy. Abortion is murder, no doubt. Mark Sanford's isn't a voice we should miss, though. We need to educate our children, and become involved in their lives, instead of concentrating on the endless quest for more money and power.

Abortion is a poor choice but sometimes the only one. Do YOU want to take care of a mistake for 21 or so years? Didn`t think so...don`t be so quick to interfere in someone else`s life. Besides, I`ve noticed that the politico`s that are yelling so much about saving fetuses don`t seem to have any problem sending young folk (NEVER old folk) to do some dangerous bidding that will put them in harms way. If these jerks had to fight their own wars there wouldn`t be any wars, cowards!! Why is it always MEN that are worried about abortion????

Tigger_The_Tiger

Do YOU want to take care of a mistake for 21 or so years? Nah...... just kill it. That way your life will be more comfortable, and you will have one less thing to take responsibility for as you find other ways to leach off the government. Why not get welfare, foodstamps and a free cell phone while you are at it......we pay for all of these too. "Why is it always MEN that are worried about abortion????" For starters, that's not true. Second, why aren't YOU worried about the murder of innocent children. And those young sent off to fight wars, VOLUNTEERED!

1941

Bill; Listen to yourself. Where would they get healthcare from? You do not belive in abortion, but you belive that babies, should be brought in this world, and not be given the best healthcare, that they should recieve! You stated ''NATION OF THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE''.WHERE are the people now, for healthcare? And furthermore I am about sick of you men, getting in the buisness of women and what they decide to do with thier bodies. You people are already complaining about your pittance of taxes that you pay, going to take care of welfare babies!!! I wish you could have a couple of babies and see what it is like to have, and take care of them!! jb5365 ; You are one hundred percent right on the target!!!

Tigger_The_Tiger

I would rather live, and struggle to pay for health care than just be killed because it my parents would have to actually WORK like the millions of others who do the same. No one is "getting in the business" of women's bodies...they are getting in the business of saving the life of the child....which some seem to have NO regard for. When Obama was in Ill. and voted to make it a crime to save the life of a child that was born alive after a botched abortion, how did that interfere with a woman's body? IT DIDN'T. It merely furthered the REAL goal of MOST abortions which is to terminate the responsibility for the previous actions.

FaceTheMusic

As a male, I, too, have always been fascinated by the fact that it is mostly groups of old white men (legislatures, governors, etc.) trying to make these decisions for women. It's as if they don't think women have enough sense to make these decisions about their bodies themselves. I personally think women are quite able to make these decisions for themselves. Maybe we should have a group of old white women deciding if men should have vasectomies or not--this could really cut down on the need for abortions. But, whether you support Roe v. Wade or not, you can get over it--the right to abortion is never going away. Move on to a new topic. The world never spins backwards.

HotFoot

blah blah blah blah blah blah blah Another man who wants to control women's right to choose. When you've got a uterus, then maybe....MAYBE I'll listen to your opinion.

Tigger_The_Tiger

Nice sexist attitude HotFoot..............what if it's MY child she wants to kill? I have no rights?

Bill: Please cause Fuax Gnus immediately. I'm sure they would love to the story about how the government forced you to have an abortion. Watch out for O'Reilly though or you may end up preggars again.

FaceTheMusic

Well, as I've heard many times before, if it were the man who got pregnant, abortion would have been legal many, many years ago.

Re: the letter: What we need is people to stop being in mythical beings and equating fetuses with adults.

Pu239

What about equating adults with horse's a$$es?

Tigger_The_Tiger

grouse..........at what point is a fetus deserving of rights as a human, and what makes it different THAT day than the day before that?

convertedsoutherner

tech... WHAT???

Tigger_The_Tiger

"Please cause Fuax Gnus immediately." What exactly is that supposed to mean?

omnomnom

The "Cash for Clunkers" program is working so well that I don't see what's holding us back from a "Cash for Grandma" program for health care reform. I haven't really talked it over with my diabetic, ailing heart mom, but getting her, and others like her, off the planet, would be such a boost to the economy..

jack

jb5336, just how many of the abortions perfomred were from "accidents"? Less than 1% with the rest for convenience? As for sending young folks in harm's way rather than the old, I haven't ever seen an Army or any military of old folks. Unfortunately, they have always been the young and able. At least now, they are all VOLUNTEERS.

jack

1941, what do you cal a "pittance" in taxes? I am retired and still have to pay thousands in taxes and I don't call that a "pittance". Abortion is murder by any other name. If you dance, you should have to pay the fiddler.

SC-LSU-Fan

Nice sexist attitude HotFoot..............what if it's MY child she wants to kill? I have no rights?
Posted by Tigger_The_Tiger on Sun Aug 23, 2009 10:05 AM You have the right to express your opinion on what should be done. But if you decide later on you don't want the child, you can split. Then the mother who didn't want the baby in the first place will be left to take care of it alone. So you would have taken her rights away by enforcing your "rights".

Tigger_The_Tiger

And she has the right to collect child support. NO one has the right to kill a child.

mable8

Tigger the Tiger: most men of illegitimate children NEVER pay child support; their attitude is "Oh well." For all you men who want to continue to make women subservient to you, until YOU give birth to a live human being, keep your silence; women have the right to NOT have children and if it means an abortion in the first trimester, so be it. In China, there are documented reports that women will do anything to abort an unwanted child; and in most regions of China, if you have a child without the consent of the government, it is your death as well as the infant's. Roe v Wade was to get rid of the backyard butchers who were murdering our young women at such a high rate, it was deplorable. At least now, they can have an abortion in an appropriate medical setting.

Tigger_The_Tiger

Until you can give birth without a man, keep YOUR silence. So since "most" men never pay child support (a claim you site NO source on) you condemn the children of those who do. It amazes me how you can rationalize killing a child, mable8.

Bill, in case you didn't notice, your beeloved leader was a flim-flam artist. I did the math on your figures and discovered that if a grave was 8' long and 3'wide then 1,616,000,000 abortions have been performed. Bill, do you realize that is more people than have ever lived in the U.S. in its history. You really need to find a better source for your info. By the way that same congress forced income taxes on us to pay for WW1, WW2, Korea etc. I guess you didn't see a need for an Armed Forces either did you, or as a good christian you probably are mad that the government forced citizens to accept tax credits for donations to churchs even though they are corporations making money.

1941

Tigger; The only abortions you need to worry about, is the ones, the lady that you are sleeping with, might decide to have!!When was the last time you went to an adoption agency, or how many unwanted babies, have you adopted? Thank God for Roe vs Wade!!

Asitisinaug

It isn't a decision for women. It is a voice for children whom can not speak for theirselves. It comes down to (or should) as to whether you believe aborting a fetus is murdering a yet to be born human being. If you believe it to be murder, you certainly can not support abortion for any reason whatsoever. Personally I have very mixed views as I don't believe we need to have babies born to parents who don't want them and that they will more than likely have trouble succeeding. On the other hand, I don't believe any of us, including the mothers, have the right to take the life of a child. It is one thing to believe in capitol punishment of violent criminals but another to allow the death of innocent children. Both sides have very valuable points but it all comes down to deciding when a child is a child and taking it from there which definelty is very tough to do. Neither side should take to violence though nor show so much hatred towards those that simply disagree - proper discussion and communication is the best way to arrive at the best answer.

SC-LSU-Fan

Collecting child support does not make her life as a single mother easier. In most cases it just means going to court repeatedly to get the moeny they are supposed to be paying. Until you have actually walked in the shoes of a female who is pregnant with a child she can't take care of, you will NEVER understand!!

SC-LSU-Fan

Contrary to what you may believe, everyone who gets an abortion is not some twit who couldn't keep her legs together. There are married women on birth control who have abortions because the birth control didn't work and they already have kids and are barely making ends meet. I've never been in that position, and by the grace of God I hope I never will, but if it came down to me making the choice, it is MY choice, and it's between my, my husband and God, and it's none of your business.

disssman

SC-L-SU-Fan, There are even some who go for a vacation to europe, so the members of the church won't start talking. But of course they are members of the community who are probably like our good Governor next door. You know, old do-as-I-say, not as-I-do.

JohnQPublic

I didn't see Bush getting rid of abortion in the 8 years he was President! It wasn't even on his "to do" list! Neither did any other GOP presidents who have outnumbered democrat presidents since 1973 and roe v wade.
