Don't let your voices die

  • Follow Editorials

Washington, D.C., is like a bad vampire movie. Nothing ever really dies there.

And so it is, with the proposal for a government health care plan, which many believe would drive a stake through the heart of private insurance and lead to the nationalization of all health care.

This, from the government that ran the Cash for Clunkers program into the ground, and soon will do the same for Medicare and Social Security.

It appeared for a time last weekend that angry and fearful Americans managed to kill the idea: President Obama and his administration said the public option wasn't essential to health care reform. But the far-left quickly pulled on the leash, the administration heeled, and the public option was indeed back on the table.

Meanwhile, Democratic congressmen, tired of hearing from their constituents, started having fewer and fewer town hall meetings. Or, like Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., they arrogantly insulted voters asking tough questions.

We need no more evidence than that to realize that the republic is being choked into submission by an imperious ruling class.

The lesson is that those who oppose a government takeover of any more of the health care system -- which is one-sixth of the American economy -- cannot rest. You simply must continue to have your voices heard. It's absolutely essential, in order to keep government from running amok in our personal lives.

Since congressional town halls are disappearing, some concerned Augusta residents have decided we ought to stage our own.

The grassroots group is planning a rally Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Riverwalk's Jessye Norman Amphitheater from 5 to 9 p.m.

Those at the Stop ObamaCare (SOC) rally will hear from health care professionals who know how devastating government health care will be; patients who have lived under socialized health care; political leaders who do oppose Obamacare, and others. Attendees are encouraged to bring socks -- it's a SOC rally, after all -- to mail to Washington.

If you're concerned about your health care freedom and the health of the nation, come to the rally.

There's never been a more important juncture in our lifetimes to stand up and be heard by an increasingly out-of-control and autocratic government.

Truckin Ranger, how can the

Truckin Ranger, how can the cash for clunkers be such a success when dealers are pullling out of it due to non payment by the government and piles of red tape/paper work for which the DOT was not prepared to process efficiently? I am al for heath insurance reform/more regulation by government (it's real job), but NOT the government taking away from Medicare (which is going broke) to pay for illegals and dead beats. That "greed" you complain of is not from the providers, but from the insurance companies and hihg cost of liability insurance thanks to no tort reform because the trial lawyers are one of the biggest groups of supporters of the DIMs. I await 2010 and 2012 with bated breath. Perhaps Mass contituents of the House queen, Barney Frank, will wake up and get rid of his arrogant azz.

Unlike the wealthy, who benefitted IMMEDIATELY from Bush's 1.3 trillion addition to the deficit.

If Republicans could claim

If Republicans could claim Cash for Clunkers we would be witnessing the biggest orgy of self-congratulation since Ronald Reagan's bicoastal week-long funeral and dinner on the ground.
Posted by dashiel on Sun Aug 23, 2009 6:57 AM....Had the Republicans come up with theprogram, it would have been better planned and carried out. Something the DIMs obviously don't have a clue about.

If socialized medicine is so

If socialized medicine is so great, why is the incoming Canadian equivalent of our Sec of Health and Human Services saying that Canada's socialized medicine is "imploding"? Why do we say we have approx 12M illegals in this country but FACT Check states only about 9.5M and ALL would be covered under BimbObama Care. BTW, where are we gong to get all the doctors to provide for the claimed 45M uninsured if they have guv'munt insurance? Where are the states gong to get the money for MORE that will be covered by Medicaid when most states are already broke?

Retired Army. Here is a link especially for you. And it is very up-to-date. http://seekingalpha.com/article/155858-health-insurance-industry-s-profi... There are 85 other industries more profitable than health care insurance companies (profit margin of 3.3%) The number one industry at 25.9% profit margin is beverage brewers. Why are you not railing about the money big beer makes?

The government needs to go

The government needs to go after those greedy grocery stores next. They make a profit on FOOD of all things. And you know a man has to eat. The government should take over the farming, transportation, processing and sales of all food. Matter of fact, the food should be rationed due to need, not what you can afford to pay. Eating is a right.

So insurance makes money on the misery and suffering of others. Not all is on misery and suffering. My husband and I are very glad that insurance made it possible for a birth defect in his heart to be repaired. He will live much longer now. Thank you very much greedy insurance company.

Lawyers make a lot more off

Lawyers make a lot more off of the misery of others yet the Democrats have no program for tort reform. I guess if you are a Democrat like Edwards it is OK to sue the productive so you can become wealthy enough to pay for a mistress and a love child. If you are a Democrat you just can't make money by successfully operating a company that employs large numbers of people and provides a valuble service!!

retiredarmy: I don't believe

retiredarmy: I don't believe you ever served in the armed forces; your take on American society is too much like an alarmist who is afraid the American people will defeat the communistic ideologies currently being forced on them. If communism is so dear and near to your heart, please purchase a one-way ticket to the communist country of your choice; and take the big O, Pelosi, Frank, and Reid with you. I promise you, none of you will be missed.

I keep hearing that the cash

I keep hearing that the cash for clunkers program is a failure. Where in the world are those people getting their information? Everywhere I've read has said that the program has been successful in bringing autoworkers and dealers back to work and doing its part to help the auto industry. It's also improving the environment by putting more fuel-efficient cars on the road, and lowering Americans use of foreign oil. Of course town hall meetings are happening less and less. What do you expect when your representatives show up to answer questions and no matter how many times you try to answer questions, people don't believe it anyway? If I want to listen to a bunch of screaming ignorant rednecks spewing BS, I can turn on Jerry Springer.

Retired - You stated

Retired - You stated communism died in Europe - while that is well and good, it is alive and well in China and many countries to our south. Unfortunately, Obama sold our soles and that of our children and their children ad finitum to the Chinese for a few bucks, none of which has done anything for the economy. Government programs do not work. They hinder the ability of a person to think for themselves. They take away self-respect. They leave a moral hole in the soul of a person. Look at our society. Look at what Augusta has become. Too many robberies, thefts, carjackings, murders, rapes, children without two parents - oh the list is long. Where do most of these crimes take place? I can guarantee it isn't in west Augusta nor in Evans. The perpetrators of these and other crimes are the leaches of our society. They have been hand fed and cared for for too many years. Why do we keep allowing this?

RetiredArmy - I grew up on an

RetiredArmy - I grew up on an Indian Reservation in South Dakota. I know first hand what it is like to live where the government controls everything from where you go to school to what religious practices you may adhere to. Most of our religious practices were outlawed. I know first hand what it is like to have goverment medical care, or lack thereof. I learned long ago the only way to get out from under Uncle Sam's thumb - and that aint a pretty place to be - is to get an education and then get a job. Hard work will get you everywhere - sitting around complaining that nobody is helping you enough will only get you a fat [filtered word] and probably heartburn. But I can tell by your age that you are either retirement age or close to it. You probably want more benefits than you are entitled to, You may put a sock in it, sir.

Obama has done much to

Obama has done much to dis-unify our country. He promotes class warfare because it serves his agenda. His handling of Gates Gate was horrendous. He has insulted police officers, doctors, banking and insurance industries. And he has encouraged friends and neighbors to inform on others who don't agree with him. And he has apologized for Americans while globe trotting.

Cash for clunkers was just

Cash for clunkers was just another enabling program that teaches the oppsite of personal responsibility and acountability just like most social programs. A person works hard, supports the economy, drives a fuel efficient car and upgrades every few years, etc. and he must pay for everything himslef plus pay taxes to give away 3 billion dollars to those who are driving clunkers but now prefer to have a new vehicle with the government "ie; taxpayers" helping him to pay for the new car. This is just like the government getting involved in Freddie and Fannie to provide homes to underpriviledged people who couldn't afford them, another disaster and waste of tax dollars. They can't run medicare, medicade, social security, the post office, or even provide decent health care for our vetrans so if Obama really wants to do something good for America, work on fixing these problems first. And, as for the 1.3 trillion debt that Bush put us in (with 99% of Congress) by sending us to war against terroritst over 8 years, it sure beats the 3 trillion dollar defecit caused by this administration in a mere 6 months while at the same time cutting our national security budgets.

End of life panel or death

End of life panel or death panel, WHy do we need that in a bill or have some panel decide what is proper care at that time of life. It's simple we do not need the Govt. for this. while your still of sound mind, make a living will, designate a trusted family member to make the ultimate decisions for you when you cannot. I'm set up for my mother as she was for my stepfather. have Signed and current DNR's in the med records available. These are all things that can be discussed with your family practice DR and Attorny long before the time is needed. People just need to ask?
