Don't let your voices die

  • Follow Editorials

Washington, D.C., is like a bad vampire movie. Nothing ever really dies there.

And so it is, with the proposal for a government health care plan, which many believe would drive a stake through the heart of private insurance and lead to the nationalization of all health care.

This, from the government that ran the Cash for Clunkers program into the ground, and soon will do the same for Medicare and Social Security.

It appeared for a time last weekend that angry and fearful Americans managed to kill the idea: President Obama and his administration said the public option wasn't essential to health care reform. But the far-left quickly pulled on the leash, the administration heeled, and the public option was indeed back on the table.

Meanwhile, Democratic congressmen, tired of hearing from their constituents, started having fewer and fewer town hall meetings. Or, like Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., they arrogantly insulted voters asking tough questions.

We need no more evidence than that to realize that the republic is being choked into submission by an imperious ruling class.

The lesson is that those who oppose a government takeover of any more of the health care system -- which is one-sixth of the American economy -- cannot rest. You simply must continue to have your voices heard. It's absolutely essential, in order to keep government from running amok in our personal lives.

Since congressional town halls are disappearing, some concerned Augusta residents have decided we ought to stage our own.

The grassroots group is planning a rally Thursday, Sept. 3, at the Riverwalk's Jessye Norman Amphitheater from 5 to 9 p.m.

Those at the Stop ObamaCare (SOC) rally will hear from health care professionals who know how devastating government health care will be; patients who have lived under socialized health care; political leaders who do oppose Obamacare, and others. Attendees are encouraged to bring socks -- it's a SOC rally, after all -- to mail to Washington.

If you're concerned about your health care freedom and the health of the nation, come to the rally.

There's never been a more important juncture in our lifetimes to stand up and be heard by an increasingly out-of-control and autocratic government.

Retired army,Since you are so

Retired army,Since you are so concerned about the disparity between the haves and have nots and are obviously willing to scarfice your money and your life for others to promote the welfare of the less fortunate I have a question! When are you going to donate a kidney? It isn't fair that you have two good kidney's while many have none! It isn't just that you being somebody so blessed isn't forced by the government to donate a kidney! If every healthy person gave a kidney we could really reduce government costs for dialysis and treatments for those lacking a kidney. I think you should step up and offer! Oh I know it is easier being generous with other peoples money! It is like the joke about the young man who asks his date if she would sleep with him for a million dollars. She thought about it and said yes! He then asked if she would sleep with him for 10 dollars. She was offened and said "what kind of women do you think I am?" The man replied "we established that we are haggling about price". You feel free taking that which belongs to others but don't want to or limit what you give making you hypocrits!!!!!

Retired - You grew a

Retired - You grew a conscience? You grew tired of working and decided to live off of someone else's earnings. Where is the self-respect in that? Get a job, support yourself. I am tired of supporting you. Communism has never worked, will never work, can never work. BTW - Social Security is the largest Ponzi scheme going. It cannot continue. Madoff went to jail for his Ponzi scheme, perhaps everybody in Congress and the President should go to jail for continuing this scheme. What is good for the goose is good for the gander. Health insurance allows me to be seen by the doctor, the dentist, the eyedoctor, get my glasses. The insurance industry helps support the research and development of new medicines. We are the healthiest people in the world. Our life expectancy is now 79 years, double that in some places in Africa.

Retired: Insurance profits.

Retired: Insurance profits. Well let's see, $1.1 billion went to William McGuire, CEO of United Health Care as his "golden parachute" after he was forced to resign after backdating stock options. Tigger: Your sources for your info for the healthcare bill are BS. The "if you drop your insurance you're forced into the government plan" statement you stick by was from an editorial by Investor's Business Daily. It has been proven a lie, like many of their editorials (ask Steven Hawking). It was snatched up by Hannity and the right wing blogs and chain e-mails. BTW, the non-partisan group IBD cites is The Lewin Group, owned by, you gussed it, United Health Care.

car: Yeah, Krauthammer has it

car: Yeah, Krauthammer has it down pat. First, Krauthammer's accident was during his first year of med school. He finished and then worked as a psychiatrist. He didn't quit due the accident. This quote says it all:"When my father was dying, my mother and brother and I had to decide how much treatment to pursue. What was a better way to ascertain my father's wishes: What he checked off on a form one fine summer's day years before being stricken; or what we, who had known him intimately for decades, thought he would want? The answer is obvious." To h*ll with what his father wanted, he made the decision for him.

TechLover on Sun Aug 23, 2009 10:36 AM You missed the obvious part about physcians try to heal. So is a doctor going to suggest passivity when the Doctor spend 12 to 15 years learning to heal? Does the Doctor decide or the patient and his family. It is a tough area to deal in but the government MANDATING, ORDERING, FORCING people in to roles they do not want to take or give advice they don't want isn't productive. My daughter is also a nurse and worked in a neonatal ICU, some families were wiling to face the truth about certain situations others were not. Mandating a Doctor discuss it isn't going to work until the people ask for the advice!

I hate to tell you all this,

I hate to tell you all this, but people without insurance are rationing their own care right now BECAUSE THEY CAN NOT AFFORD IT!!! So you really would not have a big difference with or without the health reform. At least with a public option you would get that care sometime. Right now it is almost never. By the way, I work a fulltime job with a small business (less than 10 employees) and they can not afford to give us medical insurance. They can barely pay for themselves to have insurance. My husband and I have preexisting medical problems and can not get insurance on our own. And don't tell me to look for a job with benefits with the unemployment at 10.3%!!! My sister was out of work for 8 months and just went back to work.

TechLover on Sun Aug 23, 2009 10:24 AM Interesting you are so quick to jump on the errant data of other's but give Obumbler a pass on his BS. The congressional budget office continually says his numbers don't work on savings, preventative medicine and now we find out Obumbler's 10 year deficit is under estimated by TWO TRILLION DOLLARS over what the White House projected! Obumbler continually quotes 45 million uninsured here are some interesting facts from Fact Check www.factcheck.org/2009/06/the-real-uninsured/ How can you believe any numbers or statistics that come out of the White House?

Retired Army, you don't have

Retired Army, you don't have a clue about health care. First, any government program with the word "care" in it is a misnomer. They only care about government. Second, do the math. If the insurance companies earn $200 billion and cover approximately 230 million Americans, their profit is less than $900 per customer annually. If you buy a union made vehicle, say for $28,000, that lasts for seven years, that's a cost of $4,000 per year, roughly the cost of decent health insurance. My guess is the profits to the dealer, manufacturer, parts suppliers, delivery companies, etc. would exceed $900 per year for the life of the vehicle. Thank you for your service to our country. You could, however, do additional service by doing a little homework and applying some logic to your arguments. By the way, as a retired military service employee, how much does your health insurance cost?

slmpaquin - See

slmpaquin - See http://www.medhealthinsurance.com/preexisting-conditions.htm There are certain protections allotted to those with preexisting medical conditions. This isn't an insurer or agent but has a lot of good information. Most people agree, we need healthcare insurance reform. However, this is not the way to go. The government cannot run anything efficiently. There is waste in every aspect of every government program. What makes anybody think this would be any different.

So the "tough question" in

So the "tough question" in the chronicle's insane mind is comparing the black President of the United States and a gay Jewish Congressman to Nazism. (Nice of you to conveniently leave that little tid-bit of information out.) Yeah chronicle, once again you take your marching orders straight from Faux News. This radical right wing nutcase got exactly what she deserved from Barney Frank. Total disregard for her and her ridiculous assertion. She, Faux, and you can't take it.

The Chronicle is so biased

Unpublished

The Chronicle is so biased that it would be funny if it weren't so sad. "Tough questions?" Please....comparison Universal Health Care to Nazism is ridiculous and implying that a homosexual Jew is a Nazi shows an alarming lack of knowledge of history. The Chronicle is against the people and only supports the elites...the kind that hang around with WSMIII at the Augusta National. The Republicans have lied and lied and lied (death panels, etc.), so that we may not end up with what all other civilized nations in the world take for granted.

I get tired of hearing form

I get tired of hearing form the left about how Bush did this, Bush did that and now that Obumbler is much worse they still attack and denigrate those that don't agree with them! It was Pelosi that called those that object to the health care power grab NAZIs. It was The Democrates that called us a mob. It is the Democrates that hired a firm to collect Emails from those objecting to the health care grab. It is the Democrats that are refusing to listen to their constituants..Then the Democrats turn around and say that we are calling them NAZI! What a pathic joke for Democratic Congress critters and the teleprompter reading empty suit! They remind me of the black race hustlers that used to trash their houses,or dorm rooms and put up swastikas and KKK signs then claim racial harrasment!
