After a weeklong trial and four hours of deliberation, the jury found Karmbi Octavious Young, 20, guilty of murder, armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana.
Assistant District Attorney Geoffrey Fogus, who prosecuted the case, only said, "I'll just let the verdict speak for itself."
Mr. Young's attorney, Hugh Hadden, refused to comment.
Mr. Young, who took the witness stand in his defense Friday, said he was at the home of Rickey Gibson, 33, but never went in.
"I never went inside the house," Mr. Young said, claiming he and co-defendant Patrick Booker were meeting some women in Grovetown. "I did not go out there to go to the house (of Rickey Gibson). I went out there to meet some females."
Mr. Fogus said in his closing arguments that even if Mr. Young didn't go inside, he could be held accountable if he knew about the crime before, during or after.
"When one person is a party to a crime, a co-conspirator, the act of one is the act of all," he said.
Mr. Gibson's girlfriend, Alexis Yates, told police that four masked men broke into the home she shared with him on Sept. 24, 2008, threatened to shoot her and her then-3-month-old son and shot her boyfriend to death.
Ms. Yates escaped with her baby but said she heard Mr. Gibson scream and gunshots.
Police arrested Mr. Young shortly after the incident in a car with Mr. Booker near Pumpkin Center. He was one of three men Ms. Yates identified as the men who forced their way into her home, put a gun in her baby's mouth and threatened to shoot the infant, Mr. Gibson and her.
Also charged in the case are Mr. Booker, 19; Willie Bernard Butler Jr., 20; Martin Napoleon Holmes, 18; and Garland Ray Pittman, 15. All are being held without bond.
Mr. Young could receive up to two life sentences plus 90 years for the offenses, according to prosecutors. A sentencing date has not been set.
