Defense attorney Hugh Hadden shows evidence to Judge James G. Blanchard Jr. in the trial of Karmbi Octavious Young.

After a weeklong trial and four hours of deliberation, the jury found Karmbi Octavious Young, 20, guilty of murder, armed robbery, burglary, kidnapping, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana.

Assistant District Attorney Geoffrey Fogus, who prosecuted the case, only said, "I'll just let the verdict speak for itself."

Mr. Young's attorney, Hugh Hadden, refused to comment.

Mr. Young, who took the witness stand in his defense Friday, said he was at the home of Rickey Gibson, 33, but never went in.

"I never went inside the house," Mr. Young said, claiming he and co-defendant Patrick Booker were meeting some women in Grovetown. "I did not go out there to go to the house (of Rickey Gibson). I went out there to meet some females."

Mr. Fogus said in his closing arguments that even if Mr. Young didn't go inside, he could be held accountable if he knew about the crime before, during or after.

"When one person is a party to a crime, a co-conspirator, the act of one is the act of all," he said.

Mr. Gibson's girlfriend, Alexis Yates, told police that four masked men broke into the home she shared with him on Sept. 24, 2008, threatened to shoot her and her then-3-month-old son and shot her boyfriend to death.

Ms. Yates escaped with her baby but said she heard Mr. Gibson scream and gunshots.

Police arrested Mr. Young shortly after the incident in a car with Mr. Booker near Pumpkin Center. He was one of three men Ms. Yates identified as the men who forced their way into her home, put a gun in her baby's mouth and threatened to shoot the infant, Mr. Gibson and her.

Also charged in the case are Mr. Booker, 19; Willie Bernard Butler Jr., 20; Martin Napoleon Holmes, 18; and Garland Ray Pittman, 15. All are being held without bond.

Mr. Young could receive up to two life sentences plus 90 years for the offenses, according to prosecutors. A sentencing date has not been set.

Why do so many young people

Why do so many young people simply throw their lives away? Why do so many people simply not know how to choose friends that will improve their lives vs. brining them down? Why do the leaders of the black community protest and criticize the police and judicial systems continually and yet fail to address the major problems of violent black males in America? Why do we continue to allow violent murdering criminals to be a part of our society, even in jail? If we would agressively arrest, properly convict and then execute criminals such as this within 6 months of the crimes, violent crimes and murder would drastically decrease. In reality, we would have less people dying and instead of it being productive members of society, it would be violent criminals that NEVER should be part of our society again. All of the enabling and lack of personal responsibility in America needs to cease to exsist.

allsmiles, let's hope and

allsmiles, let's hope and pray you are never one that has to identify someone who has murdered a loved one...and it's more sad than you can ever know. This conviction still wont bring Ricky back to his children...the youngest one will never get to touch him, but he will know who his Daddy was and is in his heart.

And for the comment about helping the victims...That doesn't happen in many cases and it is put back on friends and family to pick up the pieces. Once a person is in prison there aren't any contributions to go in Victim's Assistance Programs. The people with lesser crimes with fines pay those fees for the most part. Not sure if there is any government subsidies for this program particularly. I'd rather be paying into that than so much taxes.

CobaltGeorge the answer is NO

CobaltGeorge the answer is NO about helping victims. We continually send lawyers to the statehouse to represent us and they continually go to represent themselves. Don't be surprised with what we pay lawyers for the appeal for this bum, after all we did vote for them to represent us, didn't we?

A Victim's Assistance Program

A Victim's Assistance Program could be established by resurrecting the chain gang. Allow 75% of their wage to go to the Victim and 25% to a fund of their choice.

What is the jury makeup? Why
Unpublished

What is the jury makeup? Why is that info not printed, probably due to the accurate predictions of the verdict. Young did not go inside, but being charged with murder? These kids don't even know their life is actual over from a corrupted system. Only the actual shooter should be charged with murder, but the hate allows all minority men to be treated with the same charge. What a shame.

OK, so if you see someone or

OK, so if you see someone or know and are within a few feet and you don't tell then it's okay. WOW!!! Honey....identification probably had something to do with it. Perhaps you'd have seen it different had you been at the trial.
And I'm not sure what "corrupted system" you're speaking of justus 4....please...go on and explain. FYI.....the man killed was black also....so if that's the case it's minority all the way around isn't it. The minority here is a child left behind w/ no father....Make that 4 children with no father.

justus4: what kind of justice

justus4: what kind of justice do you think is appropriate? the law has been on the books before you were born--and it isn't going to change. If the first defendant was so innocent and stayed in the car as he claims, then why didn't he run when he saw his friends putting on ski masks and arming themselves with weapons? He is as deserving of the penalty given as the others who will follow; anyone believing in the innocence of these murders is a fool--the FACTS are in and now they will pay the penalty. Hopefully, the actual shooter will receive the death penalty; but, then again, he will at least have 15 to 20 years of life before execution takes place--and that's a whole lot more of life than the victim was given.

justus4 - Sorry, if you take

justus4 - Sorry, if you take part in a crime, any part, you deserve to have the same verdict as the person who committed the murder. If Young was a white person would you be calling for the death penalty? The people who did this crime deserve to be put to death, sooner rather than later.

I just want to thank everyone

I just want to thank everyone who commented on Justus4's "comments", I won't say much more than that....I think we all know what "idiot status" is.

If anyone who cares about the ones left behind in this wake of viciousness; please, pray for Jordan and the other three children Rickey left behind.

Justus 4 never responds to

Justus 4 never responds to any questions regarding his idiotic racist rants that make absolutely no since. He never supports punishment of minorities, even when they murder, rob, rape and pillage as he believe the all white media causes these problems and can't see beyond that. He doesn't support anything that would actually place personal acountability or responsibility on black males (the primary viloent criminal in the USA) and instead looks for others to blame. His comments are so far out there they really aren't worth responding to but they certainly can get to you. You have to really feel sorry for such a sad and misguided person that hates America, Whites, Police, Justice, etc. so much. I just wish he would allow us to buy him a one way ticket to any other country as he does absolutely nothing positve for this country and certainly not for his race.

I got a chance to meet the

I got a chance to meet the girlfriend that God gave grace to and the wonderful friends and family. May God bless the deceased family and give them comfort at this time. The young woman rededicated her life to Christ and she is now a new creature. We need to spend the rest of our lives forgiving and walking in Love. Jesus is soon to come. May God get the Glory out of every situation, trial, tribulation, and peace that come our way. We must prepare to meet thy God and be ready just in case our time comes suddendly.
