Handfull of dealers sticking with Clunkers program

The money is running out for the federal Cash for Clunkers program and area car dealers are dropping out on participation.

The federal government will end the program Monday at 8 p.m. The $3 billion program allows car buyers to trade in gas guzzlers that met program guidelines for a $3,500 or $4,500 rebate on a new vehicle.

Dealerships still participating:

- Acura of Augusta (today only)

- Gordon Chevrolet (today and maybe Monday)

- Pendarvis Chevrolet (today and Monday until noon)

- William Mizell Ford (today)

- Honda Cars of Aiken (today)

- Milton Ruben Toyota (today)

- Thomson Chrysler Dodge Jeep (today and Monday)

- Bob Richards Toyota (today or Monday)

- Jim Satcher Motors (today and Monday)

- Taylor Hyundai (today and Sunday until 5 p.m.)

Dealerships no longer participating:

- Gerald Jones Auto Group

- Bobby Jones Ford Lincoln Mercury

- Johnson Motor Co. (Augusta and Aiken)

- Stokes Hodges Chevrolet Cadillac Buick Pontiac GMC

- Henna Chevrolet Cadillac

- Milton Ruben Chevrolet, Chrysler-Jeep

- Fairway Ford

- Jim Hudson Lexus

- Yonce Ford Mercury

- Triangle Dodge
