"Most times, when a bank is held up ... they don't ever put their hands on anybody, which these guys did," Aiken County Sheriff's Office Capt. Troy Elwell said. "So these guys are a little more concerning than the bank robbers we've seen in the past."
The robbery was reported at 10:45 a.m. at First Citizens Bank, 2020 Atomic Road in Beech Island. Police said two men walked into the bank with handguns, took money from the bank's drawers and ordered a customer to hand over some personal items. Capt. Elwell wasn't sure what those items were.
He said the bank's building was destroyed April 10 by a tornado. It is operating out of two temporary structures and no longer houses a sheriff's office substation.
"That bank's been through a lot," Capt. Elwell said.
He said Monday's robbery had some similarities to others in the county, "But it's too early to say they are connected."
One robber is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 160 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and black jeans. The other is black, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes and was wearing a white, long-sleeve shirt with black jeans.
