Students return to school in Aiken County

For teachers like Robin Wates, preparing for the the new school year started a long time ago. The Hammond Hill Elementary School first grade teacher worked extra hours to make sure everything was ready for the first day of school.

ACROSS AIKEN COUNTY

- Superintendent Beth Everitt spent her day visiting Area 2 schools and 20 new principals and administrators, according to her administrative assistant Rose Puckett.

- Only one high school student was written up for having a cell phone on campus Monday. Administrators said students adhered to the new cell policy well. The new policy does not allow students or teachers to have a cell phone in class. It must be kept in a locker or car during the school day.

- Deputy Superintendent David Caver said traffic and buses ran as smoothly as could be expected for a first day. Expect traffic near elementary schools to remain heavy this week.
