Town hall hysteria makes America a joke

It would be wise to persuade the member of your editorial board who gave his thoughts on the current town hall meetings ("Summer of slander," Aug. 9) that this whole charade is a gigantic joke that is endangering the future of the country and making the United States the laughingstock of the world.

He also should be reprimanded for his stupid analogy between our Founding Fathers and the lumpenproletariat led by Chairman Limbaugh.

Apparently Mr. Godoy has forgotten what he learned in school about how and why this country was founded. He has also forgotten about the public protests like the Boston Tea Party. Protests are as, if not more so, American as you can get.

Katy Abrams is the poster child for the town hall meetings. Even with soft ball questions from Hannity she came off as uninformed. She hasn't read the bill, didn't listen to Specter's answers. On Hardball she says she doesn't pay attention to wars because we have been in one since 19991. She doesn't know how much money she pays in taxes or if it will change because her husband handles that. She just say she doesn't want us to be like Russia. But couldn't answer any questions about Medicare or SS. Just threw out a few buzz words socialism, etc. It does make America look back when people scream uninformed nonsense.

the constutition was written

the constutition was written to protect the individual from the govt not the govt from the the individual. it gives us the right to bear arms feedom from religious govt interference freedom of speech and etc... and these freedoms are being trampled on by the govt. who is not acting lawful and sir you are forgetting our history. especially of the civil right marches the protest against wars etc all freedoms of expression quarenteed by our constitution. i appluad these freedoms and the wisdom of our founding fathers for the right to air our grevience against the govt. but it appears the so called tolerant left wants those who do not hold to their beliefs silenced well its not going to work finally the overburden unappreciated taxpayer has had enough.

No new taxes for health care reform! Non-government health care coops are the way to get things started. Let's see how they introduce competition into the insurance industry. After the taxpayers see how that works, then expand Medicare/Medicaid to include the remaining uninsured. We don't need to jump into this thing all at once. Do it in stages or don't do it at all!

It's funny how you zealots jumped all over someone like Cindy Sheehan when she exercised her right to protest. She didn't do it by trying to hijack a forum for discussion by screaming and hollering like crazed banshees. You didn't have much but bad things to say when actual "crowds of thousands" held protests throughout the country to protest the illegal war in Iraq. We all remember the reactions of the right wing leadership to the Vietnam protesters as well. The country has finally started coming around to the deceptions of the well-funded right-wing machine, as witnessed by its wholesale rejection of the right in the last elections. You guys continue to believe in the fallacy that you are the only ones that work and contribute to the good of the country. You don't listen to anyone but your flag-bearer Limbaugh and his assorted spin-offs, who are paid handsomely by the zealots to make you believe ridiculous claims. lobo, I love the path the republicans are on. We have good communicator as president and he has the mic. He will get hc passed and talk to the American people between now and 2010 midterms. The repubs will continue to use fear tactics and become more and more irrelevant. They will still call Obama pet names, they will still have their Hitler signs, their tea parties, etc. But it will continue to make them look more and more like a fringe party that mainstreamers will not want to be associated. He wants the public option himself he just understands that a well put together co-op may get the same result for the people. The dems do a much better job of keeping the far left on the fringe. I mean no elected official is talking about getting out of Iraq today, legalizing drugs, govt paid for abortions, or other things of the far left.
